Insurance Solutions Director - Commercial Lines

Location: Austin, TX (Palo Alto, CA or Bedminster, NJ possible)

About This Role

We’re seeking an experienced insurance solutions professional to join our team based in Austin, TX reporting directly to the Director of Commercial Lines. A successful candidate is an execution-focused person whose bias is towards action and can roll up their sleeves to quickly determine the potential around different opportunities, identify and drive the actions necessary to capitalize on opportunities that scale across the commercial insurance business practice. This person thrives on working with multiple stakeholders across an organization, sourcing and building partnerships, solving highly analytical and operational problems, and is capable of driving growth-focused initiatives end-to-end. 

About You:

  • You have a proven ability in implementing projects from discovery to execution, understand how to achieve profitable growth, establish clear directions and objectives in support of business needs
  • You are conversant and can collaborate across functional areas and with external partners to define, prioritize, and implement key initiatives to hit or exceed business goals
  • You have the intellectual and organizational skills to think through and address various business problems in parallel and can identify future trade-offs, limitations, and recommend pre-emptive actions
  • Our managers at Hippo are very hands-on. The expectation for this role is that of a do-er rather than an observer; you will be responsible and accountable for the main deliverables
  • You are detail oriented, organized, and flexible
  • You have demonstrated experience taking initiative, are comfortable with ambiguity, and operate with a sense of urgency
  • You are passionate about commercial insurance, insurtech, and building solutions that support a superior customer experience
  • You are a blended combination of strategic ability and tactical excellence

What You'll do:

  • You will own the projects, define timelines, and deliverables required to support the department’s objectives
  • Identify the actions needed to implement initiatives or services, drive the cross-functional workstreams, this includes researching and implementing all capabilities and tools required to run an efficient commercial insurance operation.  Scope of focus is enterprise-wide so your acumen must include business development, partnerships, customer experience, operational efficiencies, and pragmatic system integrations.
  • After implementation, manage and refine established benchmarks, track, and report on metrics, communicate status through reports, dashboards, and other collateral as appropriate.
  • Measure and report on impacts, make suggestions on incremental automation with product team
  • Managing outcomes includes looking for optimization opportunities wherever they exist across all of commercial lines. A lens towards optimization will include internal and external focus.
  • Create and manage dashboards, workflows, process mapping, story boards, as a work product which you will deliver and own

Must Haves:

  • Minimum of 12-15 years’ experience in strategy and business operations required. Insurance carrier, brokerage, agency, insurtech experience strongly desired.
  • Excellent execution skills. Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment and ability to both influence and develop strong partnerships at all levels
  • Exceptional business judgment with the ability to create sound frameworks to drive toward decisions and organizational alignment
  • A core analytical skill set, strong quantitative and analytical skills
  • Bachelor’s degree; MBA from top-tier school desired
