The Sr. Manager of Retail Infrastructure Technical Operations and Deployment Services will lead a team of Windows System Administrators and offshore administrators in lab management and software deployment to our 500+ stores. Lab management involves coordinating upgrades of lab devices across 3 continents, including management of hardware availability, code updates, and promotion of releases into production. This leader will be responsible for application code deployments, executing infrastructure hardware deployments, performing Windows updates, and escalated production support for all retail devices in WFM stores (including over 9,000 Windows based POS devices, 11,000 scales, and 500 servers). This leader must have a demonstrated ability to remain calm under pressure, react appropriately to problems, and be an advocate for continual process improvement of our delivery standards and procedures. This individual will work in close partnership with the engineering, store build, and application teams to ensure that system availability is top priority. Our favored candidate will have both leadership and technical skills to effectively and efficiently manage Infrastructure technologies and personnel. The candidate will have experience working with offshore deployment teams and leading software deployments across distributed environments.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide overall technology delivery services inclusive of infrastructure planning, code migration, infrastructure deployment, and systems management for each infrastructure component within this position’s scope of responsibility
  • Manage lab health and coordination of lab hardware and software activities in support of our QA teams
  • Act as a strong liaison with the retail infrastructure deployment PMs and retail application teams, understanding necessary conceptual architectures and release schedules
  • Execute deployment services for retail software and infrastructure hardware components, including the continual improvement of deployment success
  • Establish and implement 'best-practice' standards as well as departmental policies and procedures
  • Deliver by leading cross-functional teams and working in a matrix-based environment requiring strong partnership with vendors, business groups, and other IT systems development teams
  • Respond quickly and appropriately to issues that arise in the delivery of solutions
  • Communicate status updates of deployments and escalations across the department

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience working with retail technologies and 4 or more years of experience leading infrastructure teams
  • 4 years demonstrated experience managing vendors and outside technology relationships
  • Experience in leading teams in the delivery of software to distributed technology solutions, ideally in a retail environment
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems by logically and methodically stepping through the architecture
  • Proven ability to remain calm in intense situations and stay focused on the task at hand
  • Must have demonstrated ability to identify, hire, grow, develop, and retain top talent
  • Experience specifically with POS or other distributed store infrastructure components is strongly preferred
  • Understand and be a steward of solid project management principles inclusive of scope, schedule, resources, budget, issues, and risks while even more specifically recognize the nuances associated with deployment activities and deliverables
  • Must have solid communication skills and the ability to network effectively across the organization
  • Must be a champion for pushing IT standards, procedures, policies, and best practices to the team 
  • Have demonstrated ability to work with leadership on project priorities and the allocation of resources 
  • Proven record of effective leadership. This includes the ability to balance team and individual responsibilities by building teams and consensus, and getting things done through others not directly under the leader's supervision by working ethically and with integrity
