About the Role

The Junior Site Reliability Engineer is one of our core roles because this person keeps a close eye on maintaining and improving the health and productivity of the Brightpearl platform. Using your skills in an AWS hosted system with continuous updates from our development teams you will help us to ensure that our customers have a great experience with us by delivering a secure and reliable service. Working within a rapidly growing and diverse team of Systems and DevOps experts you will ensure that our solution continues to be the backbone of our customers’ business. This is particularly important because our customers are global and with many running online retail businesses, they need us 24x7.

Your Day-to-Day

  • Collaborate within a global team to roll out new features, oversee frequent releases to production and help improve our SaaS infrastructure using Kubernetes, terraform and configuration management tools.
  • Handle administration in staging and production Kubernetes clusters
  • Handle administration of various Linux services
  • Monitor and improve monitoring & logging stack of all services
  • Develop, improve and maintain existing infrastructure as code, infrastructure applications, etc
  • Support business continuity by providing “follow-the-sun” coverage with UK/US co-workers to ensure production availability
  • Work with other team members and the product owner to help prioritize project work and other tasks
  • Provide daily handover to fellow team members in our globally distributed organization, ensuring that status and progress is communicated clearly with minimal disruption to output
  • Be part of our on-call rota to provide coverage for out-of-hours incident response

Requirements

About You

  • 1-3 years industry experience
  • AWS experience
  • Familiar with various linux services
  • Minimum of 1 year developing in any scripting language
  • Have experience with modern configuration management tools (Ansible, Chef or similar)
  • Real enthusiasm for quality and automation, an ability to understand complex systems and a desire to constantly make things better.
  • Enjoys troubleshooting - diagnosing issues logically to identify root cause, with a keen eye for details and quality, seeks the solution and sees it through to completion
  • Team player - enjoys collaboration and helping others, as well as working autonomously to deliver to deadlines, with quality.
  • Passionate about technology, likes to get into the nitty gritty of how systems work and integrate as well as being keen to build on your experience with new technologies
  • Comfortable working flexibly within an Agile environment
  • Must be in Austin or willing to relocate and able to work in our downtown office
  • We are not sponsoring any visas at this time

Ideally you’ll have these skills/experiences, but we can teach you...

  • Knowledge of AWS and its various services
  • Familiar maintaining & supporting varied production environments
  • A customer-centric approach to creating and maintaining services
  • Experience with MySQL
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes/Docker a plus
  • Experience working with Terraform a plus
  • Comfortable with scripting languages (such as bash, ruby, python, golang etc)

Our downtown office is located on 7th and Brazos near some great lunch spots and the train station. We’re offer a flexible work environment to encourage productivity.
