We are seeking a Privacy Officer to lead our US privacy efforts, working effectively as a part of Babylon’s global Privacy function. You will manage two Senior Privacy Analysts and report into Babylon’s Global Data Protection Officer & Counsel.


You can be based in Austin, Texas or in any of the other locations across the USA where Babylon have a hub (Bay Area, SF, New York, Seattle or Denver).

WHAT YOU’LL WORK ON

  • The development and maintenance of Babylon’s US privacy policies, procedures and guidelines for clinical operations and product development.
  • Working closely with security teams, to meet information management certification standards, and regularly conduct data protection impact assessments to assess and analyse the risk and risk mitigations for new vendors and projects. 
  • Coordinating HIPAA risk and security assessments. 
  • Working with the global team on building a comprehensive privacy program (using frameworks such as NIST), that defines, develops, maintains and implements policies and processes that enable consistent, effective privacy practices which minimize risk and ensure the confidentiality of protected health information (PHI).
  • Ensures Babylon’s US internal privacy policies, standards, and procedures are up-to-date.
  • Responsible for coordinating and tracking all required privacy compliance training.
  • Conducting investigations of HIPAA violations.
  • Educates workforce and others on applicable laws and regulations relating to the compliance program and healthcare compliance and privacy risk areas, including new employee orientation and recurring training for employees and specialized training as needed.
  • Provides ongoing support, coaching, education and participates collaboratively with management and staff to design systems and processes to mitigate privacy issues. 
  • Maintaining a register of business associate agreements for Babylon and its clients, and implementing proactive monitoring programmes of business associates.
  • Creating and conducting monitoring and other quality assurance metrics and reviews to determine privacy compliance success.
  • Coordinating with other areas of the organization to identify and address risk areas and activities.
  • Overseeing responses for release of health information requests.
  • Managing privacy compliance matters as they arise, and effectively liaising with stakeholders to bring these to a close. 
  • Effectively working with incident management teams to navigate the business through US data protection and privacy incidents. 
  • Digesting privacy rules quickly and determining the impact for the business and helping to set the risk tolerance for approach
  • staying up to date on changes to federal and state regulations, as well as compliance requirements.
  • Working efficiently across many projects and issues effectively at the same time.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • HIPAA and healthcare experience is an absolute must.
  • Experience working in the technology sectors is highly desirable.
  • Interpersonal skills required.
  • Data Protection and Privacy subject matter expert who has a minimum of 5 years professional experience in a data-privacy focused role.
  • Demonstrates high degree of capability to balance pragmatism with technical privacy advice.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders through a degree of commercial acumen that inspires trust and confidence.
  • Supports others to "see the bigger picture".
  • Perceived as a trusted advisor and contributes in such a way that creates significant commercial value for the business. 
  • Demonstrates ability to effectively translate technical privacy requirements into clear, workable, and operational processes for the business.
