Who We’re Looking For

“Innovative” and “disruptive” can be overused words. But at Bestow, it isn’t jargon, it’s an everyday rally cry. We are rewriting the rules of the 400-year-old, $7 trillion life insurance industry, serving communities who have been underserved in the past, and we believe the future is a bright one.

As a Product Manager for our Partners Squad you are responsible for determining what we should build and why we should build it. You own products which enable our partners to integrate directly with Bestow. This includes programmatic APIs, embeddable widgets and other “white label” solutions. You will be working closely with our partners to define requirements and guide overall channel strategies. Do you want to build products to reinvent a centuries old industry? Challenges on which you can expect to work:

Product Strategy

You are responsible for creating a product vision and strategy. You must clearly articulate the business value behind the product and each feature/release. You must work with engineering managers to understand the cost of each initiative. This information must then be used to prioritize building what’s most important.

Some activities you may perform include

Create a prioritized product roadmap in accordance with company OKR’s;

Actively manage, define and measure core KPIs and take appropriate actions to improve them;

Regularly conduct user and customer research to understand needs and validate ideas;

Maintain market awareness related to competitors, market conditions, and industry thought leaders;

Participate in company-wide strategic planning

Product Features

You will prioritize features by making data-informed hypotheses to their expected value compared to expected development cost. This will require making difficult trade-off decisions based on the bandwidth of your design/engineering team. You are responsible for creating detailed technical and user-experience requirements. This will be done by working closely with engineers and designers to ensure the form and fidelity of communication works best for them.

Some activities you may perform include

Create feature one-pagers;

Create a product requirements document;

Ensure the team is defining non-functional requirements such as analytics, security, and scalability;

Make timely, informed decisions about what we build;

Communicate changes in scope

Product Releases

You will work with the Engineering Manager and Technical Project Manager to plan what the team will deliver and the timeline for that delivery. You are responsible for defining what goes in individual releases. This will require coordination with various stakeholders such as Customer Service, Legal, Compliance, and Underwriting. This includes understanding cross-team dependencies and ensuring they get resolved. You are responsible for communicating status throughout the product development process.

Some activities you may perform include

Facilitate release note creation and communicate new releases;

Work with engineering, TPM to define release milestones;

Drive cross-functional execution of projects in the product roadmap;

Regular communication of progress;

Manage and prioritize scope change and bugs along with feature development

Ideation

Bestow is uniquely positioned to create unique, innovative product ideas. Any Bestower could be the source of our next major breakthrough. However, these ideas must be managed and prioritized. You are responsible for owning this idea creation process. This includes generation, curation and eventual promotion to product features. You must ensure that Bestowers know how to contribute their ideas and communicate the status of those ideas as they are promoted (or we decide not to pursue them).

Some activities you may perform include

Create and manage product idea backlog;

Work with design to facilitate “Design Sprints”

A Little About You

• 4+ years in a product management role
• 2+ years experience leading a technical product (e.g., an API, or developer tool)
• 2+ years working directly with partners or customers
• Proven track record of delivering projects on time with high quality
• Experience writing software functional requirements in agile environment
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
• Strong business acumen
• Knowledge/experience of various software development methods
• Ability to communicate with different personality types and roles (e.g., engineering, insurance, customer service, customers)
• Ability to lead without formal authority
• Comprehensive understanding of usability and interaction design
• Strong understanding and passion for technology products
• Previous software development or quality assurance experience is a plus
