Product Manager, Developer Productivity
Role Description
As a Product Manager focused on Dropbox’s Developer Infrastructure Team, you will play a critical role in defining the strategic and tactical vision and roadmap for all the build tooling (commercial, open source, and home grown) and various engineering systems within both the CI and CD domains. You will be responsible for working across multiple teams to understand their technical and business needs and figuring out how to build and evolve our CI and CD build toolchain so that it offers the best in class experience for our development teams and deployment systems. You will have a significant strategic impact and influence Dropbox’s CICD strategy and will be uniquely positioned to empower hundreds of developers and improving the experience for millions of Dropbox users.
Responsibilities
- Own CI build tooling and workflows roadmap and strategy for all of Dropbox (web, server, mobile, desktop)
- Stay up to date on major developments within the build toolchain domain and bring relevant innovations (Web Assembly, TurboPack, Bazel Cloud, etc) to our service offerings.
- Operationalize engineering systems and services such as Artifactory, Vault, SemGrep, Synk, Code Security Tools, and Container security tooling and incorporate them within templatized CICD workflows.
- Work in lockstep with the Platform team to build tooling, automated processes, and systems to enable continuous delivery (CD).
- Build containerized developer sandboxes and tooling around Kubernetes platform
- Showcase your team’s build tooling capabilities to various engineering teams and understand your customer. Make build tooling enablement a seamless and intuitive experience.
- Be an expert at prioritization — a deep partnership with engineering is key to ensure that we are appropriately balancing foundational efforts with new capabilities that reduce complexity and advance short term and long term goals.
- Drive to results. Your expertise in navigating, unblocking and persisting through challenges that arise during execution will be important as you deliver on your roadmap: making trade-offs, anticipating staffing needs, risks, and ensuring frequent and clear communication to all of your internal and external stakeholders.
Requirements
- BS or MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Business, Applied Math or Statistics, or relevant experience.
- 4+ years of PM or Engineering Manager experience working within the CI domain and having in-depth experience with the build toolchain for some particular framework.
- Solid understanding of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes, Containerd, Kaniko) domain.
- Experience with Bazel highly desirable
- Keen eye for details and data driven decision making.
- Proven ability to collaborate with engineering teams and cross-functional partners in a highly collaborative environment.
- Be effective and communicate clearly and concisely with engineering and product leadership, and influence our technical strategy.
- Build consensus and listen well, but can also drive hard decisions.
- Ability to sell and influence without authority, and deal with ambiguity.
