Join Hyliion’s Special Project Group’s “Tiger Team” to delve into development and implementation of the most advanced technologies in Electrification and Hybridization in heavy vehicle transportation. 

We are looking for a Project Manager to join this special engineering team in Austin. This full-time position offers the opportunity to be a part of a nimble company that is revolutionizing the trucking industry. We are seeking exceptionally talented individuals that are eager, motivated, and enjoy making a difference.  Reports to Sr. Manager of Engineering (SPG).

Position Description:

The Project Manager will develop schedule, budget, and coordinate requirements and program information among management, engineering, partners, and suppliers on special developmental projects.  The candidate will have a history of documented success collaborating with cross functional teams to drive complex products from the development phase, through demonstration, and into the mainstream production.  Reports to Sr. Manager of Engineering (SPG).

Essential Job Functions:

  • Manage developmental projects for Hyliion’s next generation powertrain solutions for both hardware and software activities.
  • Manage third party engineering providers and Tier 1 suppliers to ensure that projects are on time and meet technical and commercial requirements.
  • Create and manage Gantt charts to track and communicate project progress using MS Project or Smartsheets.
  • Provide daily program direction for mechanical, electrical, high-voltage battery, software and controls teams to ensure that timing is on track.
  • Identify when projects are off-track and develop mitigation plans to resolve.
  • Provide regular project updates to the Hyliion leadership team on project progress and roadblocks.
  • Work with Suppliers and OEMs to establish co-coordination among various programs, projects, milestones, and deliverables.
  • Drive reconciliation between customer requirements and specifications.
  • Ensure that of key APQP documents including FMEAs and DVP&Rs are completed to drive product reliability and robustness.
  • Facilitate problem resolution communications, or workshops.
  • Manage the development of cost models for mechanical, electrical and battery system components.
  • Manage the cost and planning for high volume manufacturing activities including product launch support.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge in Traction tools a key advantage.
  • Experience in TS16949, ISO9001, ISO26262, SAE-J standards and vehicle safety systems.
  • Experience in powertrain and vehicle development programs.
  • Strong understanding Class-8 trucks, their sub-systems and application requirements.
  • Experience in high voltage and associated safety protocols.
  • Expert in instrumentation and methodologies. 
  • High volume manufacturing experience.
  • Automotive industry and associated toolset expertise (FMEAs, DVP&Rs).
  • Experience in facilitating 8Ds.
  • Strong follow-through and self-starting nature.
  • Ability to understand and follow complex verbal and written instructions.
  • Strong software tools proficiency and Project Data/Lifecycle Management.
  • Position will involve travel visiting engineering providers and hardware suppliers.
  • Ability to work well in a high-paced environment, set and meet appropriate deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate with customers positively and effectively (internal and external), to address their needs promptly and to follow through on commitments.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in automotive environment
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Project Management Professional (PMP Certification)

 

Physical Demands: 

  • Ability to stand, sit, use of hands to handle, feel, or reach with hands and arms
  • Ability to lift and/ or move up to 25 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision

 

Work Environment:

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
