H-E-B Data Solutions is looking for a seasoned and driven Technical Project Manager with a strong Project Management and Software Engineering background to lead projects for our Data Solutions teams.  Our Data Solution partners (employees) collaborate to design, construct, implement and support technology solutions.  You will work closely with Product Managers, Engineers, and business partners to ensure launch requirements are understood, defined, tracked for key initiatives, and delivered successfully.

What You'll Do

  • Facilitate multiple initiatives of a Data Solutions development team using standards and technologies to deliver rapid and timely data and reporting solutions to business product owners. 

  • Support business product owners to develop product roadmap, maintain product backlog, groom stories, establish priorities and timelines, plan sprint scope, and communicate results. 

  • Lead scrum related ceremonies including daily standups, grooming, planning, retrospectives, prioritization, and business demos. 

  • Monitor and ensure sprint progress and maintain key sprint metrics related to deliverables, backlog, risk, and velocity of the engineering team. 

  • Communicate out sprint commitments, deliveries, challenges and concerns regarding  H-E-B Data dataset and reporting development to various levels of leadership. 

  • Mentor and coach onsite and remote team members on continuous improvement of Agile development and individual’s contributions to improve quality and velocity of deliverables.  The team should be focused, engaged, and enthusiastic.  The team members should feel comfortable discussing problems and suggesting improvement ideas. 

  • Support and coach team members on identifying, documenting, and refining requirements; including development and execution of test cases and scripts. 

  • Serve as the advocate for scrum team members and remove outside interference and distractions to team deliverables and product goals. 

  • Engage and communicate across technical and business teams to manage risks, dependencies, issues, release readiness, and quality standards. 

  • Ensure testing and production releases align to enterprise standards and leverage CoE-related tools and processes. 

  • Act as agile SME to build scrum understanding and acceptance with business and technical teams and individuals.  Uphold agile development principles and resist pressure to deviate from agile principles.  Collaborate with and mentor other technical project managers at H-E-B on the same. 

 

Who You Are

  • CS degree or equivalent 

  • 5+ years’ experience working as a software project manager with experience leading large and complex cross-functional projects in a technology  

  • You are highly adaptable in a fast-paced hyper-growth environment; able to thrive within ambiguity. 

  • You have a system to manage change. You influence decisions and change management through collaboration, leadership, and a customer-focused approach. 

  • Significant agile/lean experience in organizations leveraging lean/agile methodologies and in-depth experience with specific agile methodologies such as Scrum, Kanban, etc. 

  • Great interpersonal / communication skills (writing, speaking, listening), including navigating conflict and challenging situations while encouraging and mediating open and honest dialogue. 

  • Strong leadership capabilities, i.e. balancing the empowerment of the team to learn and grow from failure against avoiding failure when significant consequences exist. 

  • Ability to understand and articulate the team’s perspective when facilitating priority discussions with the business Product Owner. 

  • Advances knowledge and usage of product and issues tracking software such as JIRA, Confluence, and Microsoft Office. 

  • Expert problem solving, time management, and risk management skills to lead agile Data Solutions development efforts. 

  • Understanding of business intelligence process, ETL, analytical reporting, data modeling, and data warehousing. 

  • Familiarity with any modern Data development platforms/tooling a plus:  MicroStrategy, Informatica, TIBCO, Python, Java, Tableau, Spark, Hive, Impala, Kafka, Teradata, Oracle GG, SQL Server, SSRS, Azure, GCP, AWS, etc. 

  • Experience supporting retail or ecommerce operations a plus.
