As our first Storefront Technical Project Manager hire, you will help our digital product groups deliver and maintain innovative and high performing eCommerce web applications to enhance the online buying experience for Saatva’s customers. You will wear multiple hats by operating as a scrum master for your group’s squads, and as a project manager for cross-functional initiatives that impact your area. We need your help getting stuff done and keeping teams focused on the right priority! This is a role that would be a good fit for someone who is comfortable working closely with engineering, loves to solve problems, and knows how to juggle multiple priorities.

Who We Are

Saatva is a pioneer in the direct-to-consumer luxury mattress world. With our offerings of mattresses, bedding, pillows, home furnishings, and more, our mission is to deliver comfort and better quality sleep to every customer.

At Saatva, we do more than just sell mattresses. We believe in doing things consciously and with intention — from what we put in our products to how we treat our customers and each other. We believe our greatest potential is reached when we empower each other, and we believe in having a good time in the process. This commitment extends to a diverse and friendly environment that nurtures personal as well as professional growth.

About the Team

This position reports to the Director of Program Management. The Digital PMO team at Saatva exists in order to help orchestrate both the vision (the what) and execution plans (the how) created by our Product, Design, and Engineering teams. Members of this team are trusted to use their experience and collaboration skills to problem-solve the daily challenges of working at an ecommerce business. Our values are a commitment to thoughtful communication, teamwork, innovation, empathy, work-life boundaries, and self-accountability.

Your Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with your cross-functional teammates, using your project management strengths to set their roles up for success
  • Effectively manage the ticket backlog for your group’s squads, ensuring technical requirements and strategic priorities (as defined by Product) are clearly communicated and executed upon in a timely fashion
  • Operate as Scrum Master for your group, scheduling and facilitating all scrum events for your squads and increasing squad performance
  • Provide first level of technical due diligence on new solutions in order to maximize the engineering team’s focus
  • Project manage cross-functional technical projects with third party vendors, using your professional expertise and agile project management methodologies to remove roadblocks and ensure smooth rollouts
  • Other responsibilities including (but not limited to) working with our defects team, helping with initiative planning, maintaining internal documentation, and maintaining knowledge of your group’s roadmap and systems
  • Work closely with Program Management, Engineering Management, and Product Management to refine the trajectory of this role -- you’ll be the first hire and we want to make sure it’s solving the right problems and set up for success!

    An Insider's view of Saatva

How would you describe the company’s work-life balance?

Very balanced, there is a big focus on making sure people here are able to live their lives, and if you're working late into the night or on weekends people wag their finger at you.

    Sean

    Software Engineer II

What does your typical day look like?

We work in an agile environment, which means we have a short stand up every morning to start our day where we check in with one another, give updates, and see if anyone can be of assistance in helping others with current work. The rest of the day fluctuates depending on what day it is. We have planning sessions and developer workshops weekly.

    Megan

What makes someone successful on your team?

Collaboration is the name of the game here at Saatva. Questions are just as important as answers and together we find the right solutions through planning sessions, pair programming, and code reviews. If you're engaged with the problem and not just the ticket at hand, you'll see that contribution manifest in your own success as well as the team's.

    Meredith

What is your vision for the company?

My vision for Saatva Engineering is to be the place where you can do the best work of your career. Due to our unique market opportunity we have the unusual combination of a ten year track record and tremendous growth. Growth brings significant challenges, both technical and professional, but it rewards those willing to work together.

    Scott

    Vice President of Engineering

What kinds of technical challenges do you and your team face?

We regularly receive obscure, reports of issues faced with multiple systems and we need to be able to determine what the actual problem is and come up with a game-plan on how to resolve this and prevent it from happening in the future. Luckily, on my team, I regularly surround myself with some of the most knowledgeable developers to help me.
