Persona AI is developing and commercializing rugged, multi-purpose humanoid robots that perform real work. Persona’s founding team has a decades-long history in humanoid robotics, bionics, and product development delivering robust hardware that has touched the stars, worked miles below the surface of the ocean, and even roamed Disney Parks. Our mission is focused squarely on shipping beautiful, reliable products at massive scale, while building a customer-focused team to achieve these aims.

We're looking for an exceptional Perception Engineer who dreams big, thrives on challenges, and loves seeing their designs come to life. We are primarily interested in candidates who have shipped products in the fields of autonomy, robotics, consumer products, medical devices, automotive, animatronics, or aerospace. We also value advanced degrees and deep expertise.

As an inaugural engineer at Persona, you will have an incredible opportunity to shape the design of Persona’s humanoid robots, while also helping set the culture of the company. If you're passionate about cutting-edge technology and want to be part of a world-class team we'd love to hear from you.

Your Role:

  • Design, develop, and implement advanced perception systems for our humanoid robot, focusing on robustness, accuracy, and real-time performance.

  • Implement and optimize machine learning models for perception tasks, including deep learning for adaptive perception, object recognition, and scene understanding.

  • Develop and implement sensor fusion pipelines, integrating data from diverse sensors (LiDAR, cameras, depth sensors, IMUs).

  • Conduct rigorous sensor calibration and develop ML-driven techniques for adaptive calibration and noise reduction.

  • Join a team developing cutting-edge technology to improve the safety of humanoid robots in manufacturing.

  • Stay up-to-date with the latest research and advancements in computer vision, machine learning, and robotics.

We're Looking For:

  • MS or PhD in Robotics, Computer Science, or a related field.

  • 5+ years of professional experience in robotics perception or a related field.

  • Demonstrated expertise in rigorous sensor calibration and fusion, complemented by the ability to leverage machine learning techniques.

  • Deep practical experience with a broad spectrum of sensors (LiDAR, cameras, depth, IMUs) and strong proficiency in applying machine learning algorithms.

  • Experience addressing humanoid perception needs (self-occlusion, balance, HRI) through robust CV and sensor fusion.

  • Proficiency in C++, Python, and relevant computer vision and machine learning libraries (e.g., OpenCV, PyTorch, TensorFlow).

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced startup environment.

Preferred or Bonus Qualifications:

  • Experience with CUDA for GPU-accelerated perception algorithms.

  • Publications in top-tier robotics or computer vision conferences.

  • Experience in a humanoid robot startup environment.

Why join Persona AI?

  • You'll shape technology that's redefining the possibilities of robotics and human interaction.

  • Work alongside passionate teammates who value diversity, creativity, and continuous learning.

  • Enjoy full access to advanced prototyping tools, labs, and the freedom to experiment and innovate.

  • We offer competitive compensation, excellent benefits, flexible work environment, and equity opportunities.

Persona AI embraces diversity and equal opportunity in a serious way. We are committed to building a team that represents a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and skills. We believe the more inclusive we are, the better our work will be.

What you need to know about the Austin Tech Scene

Austin has a diverse and thriving tech ecosystem thanks to home-grown companies like Dell and major campuses for IBM, AMD and Apple. The state’s flagship university, the University of Texas at Austin, is known for its engineering school, and the city is known for its annual South by Southwest tech and media conference. Austin’s tech scene spans many verticals, but it’s particularly known for hardware, including semiconductors, as well as AI, biotechnology and cloud computing. And its food and music scene, low taxes and favorable climate has made the city a destination for tech workers from across the country.

Key Facts About Austin Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 180,500; 13.7% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Dell, IBM, AMD, Apple, Alphabet
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, hardware, cloud computing, software, healthtech
  • Funding Landscape: $4.5 billion in VC funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Live Oak Ventures, Austin Ventures, Hinge Capital, Gigafund, KdT Ventures, Next Coast Ventures, Silverton Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Texas, Southwestern University, Texas State University, Center for Complex Quantum Systems, Oden Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences, Texas Advanced Computing Center
