Senior Accountant

Amherst Holdings is a leading real estate investment and advisory firm that has made a significant investment into the single family rental sector. Amherst Residential has raised more than $6b of equity in various ownership vehicles that currently own and operate ~20,000 homes in 25+ different markets across the United States.

Amherst Residential is seeking a self-motivated, driven, intellectual curious accounting or finance professional to join the Accounting and Finance team. The Senior Accountant supports the accounting and finance teams in various areas focused around the daily processing of accounts payable, banking and investor related tasks.

Essential Functions

  • Calculate, post business transactions, process invoices, verify financial data for use in maintaining accounts payable records, and provide other clerical support necessary to pay the obligations of the organization
  • Prepare supporting schedules for accounts related to fixed assets, accrued expenses, prepaid expenses, deferred revenue, cash, corporate credit cards, notes receivable, notes payable, work in process, completed contract, equity and other roll forward schedules applicable to the financial statements.
  • Clarify any questionable invoice items, prices or receiving signatures
  • Obtain proper information and/or data regarding invoice payments
  • Assemble invoices to be completed for payment
  • Verify and calculate all extensions and totals on invoices (calculating and taking discounts when applicable),
  • Review invoices and requisitions for satisfactory payment approval
  • Check vendor files for any previous payments
  • Maintain copies of vouchers, invoices or correspondence necessary for files
  • Prepare vouchers listing invoice number, date, vendor address, item description, amounts and coding per accounting policies and procedures
  • Record Journal Entries where appropriate
  • Manage the Expense Reporting function which includes ensuring employees follow the company’s travel policy and procedures as well as paying employee reimbursements in a timely manner
  • Manage and lead a team of three

Education & Work Experience

  • BS degree in Accounting preferred, but not required.
  • 3 - 6 years accounting experience
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite of products.
  • Experience in real estate, preferably in a partnership or fund preferred.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency
