Position Overview:
The Senior Merchandiser is a professional member of the Merchandising team and reports to the Sr. Director of Merchandising. This is an exempt, salaried position whose primary responsibility is to develop merchandising product strategies and assortment plans, resulting in exciting and timely product assortments that will maximize sales, profits and support overall brand positioning. The Senior Merchandiser is responsible for the success of their categories and is expected to use their knowledge of current business, awareness of competition and fashion intuition to drive key action initiatives.
Responsibilities:
Product & Calendar Planning
• Manage multiple assortments simultaneously while maintaining a holistic view of the jewelry category and tracking towards the financial objectives for the Company.
• Responsible for overall product strategy and execution of Amazon and B2B assortments
• Responsible for line maintenance across all channels (Retail, Web and Wholesale) including: assortment sheet maintenance, adds/drops, exclusive product identification and retail pricing
• Drive the development of seasonal line plans and recommended product assortments that will maximize sales and profit, meet customer demand and support overall brand positioning across Retail, Wholesale and Ecommerce channels
• Responsible for assortment specific go-to-market strategy preparation for each owned category, including launch document content creation, key item identification and style ranking
• Create clear pricing structure that ties perceived value, quality and competitive retail pricing together
• Analyze and communicate in-season performance to the program level, proactively identify and report forward-looking risks and/or opportunities
• Focuses on developing customer intimacy skills through regular store visits and competitive shopping; applies findings to merchandising and execution strategies.
• Communicate and distribute all critical merchandising information to key functional areas on a timely basis
Cross Functional Partnership
• Work cross functionally to ensure all merchandising initiatives and calendar dates align with Development, Planning, Production, Design and Marketing counterparts
• Drive influence across all functional teams and senior leadership to ensure alignment on merchandising strategies and timeline
• Collaborate with channel heads to determine ecommerce and in-store presentations as well as promotional and visual strategies
• Collaborate with Sourcing to ensure production and sampling timelines are set in accordance with launch strategy
• Partner with Planning on seasonal investment strategy by market to ensure big ideas and growth drivers are protected
• Collaborate with Planning to determine promotional strategy and calendar that compliments overarching product and launch priorities
• Aware of cross functional impact on all decision making and communicates accordingly
Financial Metrics & Reporting
• Analyze and review weekly, monthly, and quarterly sales reporting in partnership with category Planner / Allocator to identify actionable takeaways and risk/opportunity assessment from a trend, financial and brand perspective
• Proactively monitor product and category performance, recommending new strategies to drive business performance
• Ensure clear, 360 degree communication with CFTs through reporting on current in season business, identifying channel specific risks and opportunities to drive business where necessary
Our Ideal Candidate will have:
• 7+ years of experience in retail merchandising or related field required
• 2+ years of experience managing an Assistant or Associate Merchant
• 4 Year College degree required; B.S Degree in Retail Merchandising preferred
• Jewelry experience preferred
• Strong cross functional leader with proven track record of collaborating and driving results
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, able to prioritize, plan and execute flawlessly
• Proven track record growing new business categories from development to launch
• Champion for product, brand and customer in all cross-functional initiatives and plans
• Highly organized, detail oriented and accurate
• Excellent communication and presentation skills to communicate confidently with senior leadership
• A growth mindset: track record of leveraging past learnings, encouraging new ideas and smart risk taking in self and others
• Seeks and is open to feedback from peers and managers
