As we target 4x growth over the next four years, you'll have unprecedented opportunities to take on new challenges, develop cutting-edge skills, and grow your career across our expanding global operations.

Join our team of innovators and help shape the future of sustainable data centers while building a career without boundaries.

As a Software Engineering Manager, you will lead and grow a talented engineering team while owning architecture and delivery across cloud and on-prem environments. You will translate operational goals into clear technical plans, set engineering standards, and partner closely with the Product Owner and Implementation Specialists on roadmap, capacity, and staffing. This is a hands-on leadership role where you mentor engineers, drive design and code reviews, provide technical direction, and write code where it matters. Help steer long-term platform strategy and deliver outcomes that make a measurable impact for our customers and the business.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead and develop the team: set goals, run 1:1s, conduct performance reviews, and coordinate compensation with HR. Provide coaching and structured feedback, set clear norms and ownership, navigate conflict productively, and foster a high-performance, inclusive culture of continual learning.
  • Support team growth: plan headcount and support recruitment. Onboard new team members and contractors. Integrate with vendor support teams.
  • Create and manage the engineering budget for tools, licenses, cloud spend, support contracts, and team payroll. Partner with product owner on forecasting, approvals, and variance tracking.
  • Optimize support contract usage and negotiate costs to meet budget targets.
  • Own end-to-end technical execution for product features and platforms across cloud and on-prem.
  • Author architecture docs and ADRs; design APIs, data models, and service boundaries.
  • Establish and enforce coding standards, patterns, guardrails, and quality gates.
  • Lead code reviews, approve PRs, and implement tools and automations to enforce standards and CI quality.
  • Plan and drive multi-sprint initiatives; manage scope, trade-offs, risks, and timelines.
  • Partner with the Product Owner to refine requirements, prioritize the backlog, and balance capacity.
  • Define and evolve software development lifecycle practices (definition of ready and done, code review, branching, releases).
  • Remove blockers, coordinate dependencies, and ensure on-time delivery with predictable outcomes.
  • Implement robust testing strategies including unit, integration, and end-to-end, and maintain CI pipelines.
  • Define SLIs and SLOs to improve performance, resilience, and cost efficiency.
  • Champion secure design, secrets management, and compliance-minded development aligned to SOC 2 needs.
  • Translate operational needs into clear technical plans and trade-off decisions for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Coordinate cross-functional work with IT, operations, and compliance.
  • Lead incident response as needed, run post-incident reviews, and drive actions to closure with measurable follow-up.

Required Skills

  • 7+ years of professional software development experience.
  • 2+ years of direct people management with experience conducting performance reviews, hiring, onboarding, and holding teams accountable to delivery and quality.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; able to explain complex technical topics to non-developers and drive alignment.
  • Proven experience architecting and delivering production systems at scale (on-prem and cloud).
  • Working knowledge of application security best practices, secrets management, and least-access principles.
  • Proficient in JavaScript/TypeScript (Node.js), Python, and other common programming languages.
  • Strong API design experience using REST/OpenAPI.
  • Experienced with PostgreSQL/MySQL; working knowledge of schema design, indexing, and query optimization with experience in Time-series databases (e.g. TimescaleDB) and telemetry pipelines.
  • Experienced with containers and orchestration using Docker (or Kubernetes)
  • Experienced with logging, metrics, and tracing using observability and quality tools like Datadog
  • Familiarity with automated testing tools like Cypress or Artillery
  • Strong UI/UX sensibilities

Desired Skills

  • Cloud platforms: AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, plus on-prem/hybrid deployment experience
  • Event streaming and messaging: Kafka
  • Reverse proxying and edge: Nginx
  • Infrastructure as Code / config management: Terraform, Ansible
  • Data center/OT protocols and integrations: MQTT, SNMP, Modbus, and BACnet
  • Front-end experience with ReactJS (AngularJS is a plus)
  • Proven experience using LLM coding tools to improve code efficiency and reliability.
