Job Description

Senior Staff Web Engineer – Zendesk Web Platform

Zendesk is committed to delivering exceptional digital experiences across our global web properties. We’re seeking a highly skilled and seasoned Senior Staff Web Engineer to join our Marketing and Web teams and drive the development, optimization, and innovation of our web platform. The Zendesk website experience is one of the business’s most crucial and fundamental aspects, and you will play a key role in making it more consistent, intuitive, scalable, and performant. You will help shape and lead front-end architectural direction, integrate critical tools, and collaborate closely with Marketing, Product, Design, and Engineering leadership to deliver a seamless user experience.

What You’ll Do
  • Develop, maintain, and lead frontend components and integrations using React, Next.js, JavaScript/TypeScript, CSS, HTML5, and modern web technologies.

  • Lead the migration of website content from WordPress to Adobe Experience Manager (AEM), ensuring brand consistency, content integrity, and accessibility compliance.

  • Architect, guide, and implement performance and scalability improvements to the frontend stack; modernize tooling, frameworks, and workflows to keep pace with industry innovation.

  • Own and maintain the frameworks and developer tooling that the web team uses daily, including JavaScript build infrastructure (Webpack, Node.js) and CI/CD pipelines (Github Actions, Travis, Jenkins).

  • Collaborate extensively with cross-functional stakeholders (Product Management, Design, Engineering leadership) to define technical requirements, UX improvements, and business-driven technical solutions.

  • Lead software engineering initiatives end-to-end—decomposing complex projects into scalable, maintainable solutions and guiding the team toward successful delivery while adapting to rapidly changing priorities.

  • Ensure code quality through comprehensive testing and review—champion best practices, maintain test coverage, and ensure reliability and stability in frequent code releases.

  • Mentor and develop engineers by providing code reviews, pairing, and guidance on architectural and technical decisions, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team culture.

  • Troubleshoot front-end and CMS-related issues, balancing rapid delivery timelines with maintaining long-term quality and stability.

  • Integrate and maintain privacy and compliance platforms such as OneTrust and TrustArc within the web environment.

  • Support and optimize integration of marketing technology platforms including Google Analytics, Marketo, Adobe Target, Segment, and other MarTech tools common in B2B SaaS.

  • Monitor application health using Datadog or other log aggregation tools and act proactively on performance or reliability issues.

  • Stay current with emerging web technologies, best practices, and architectural patterns—evangelize learning, standards, and continuous improvement across the team.

What We’re Looking For
  • 6–7+ years of relevant frontend software development experience, with advanced expertise in React (or similar JavaScript MVC/MVP frameworks) and modern JavaScript/TypeScript development.

  • Strong proficiency with frontend technologies including JavaScript, TypeScript, CSS/SCSS, CSS-in-JS, HTML5, JSON, and REST APIs.

  • Experienced in architecting and delivering scalable frontend solutions in complex, high-traffic, enterprise-grade web platforms.

  • Hands-on experience leading CMS migrations, ideally involving WordPress and Adobe Experience Manager (AEM), preferably with headless implementations.

  • Deep understanding of web performance optimization strategies, including Core Web Vitals and accessibility standards (WCAG/ADA).

  • Solid knowledge of marketing and privacy technology integrations (OneTrust, TrustArc, Google Analytics, Marketo, Adobe Target, Segment, etc).

  • Demonstrated experience using build tooling and frontend infrastructure such as Webpack, Node.js, and CI/CD systems (Github Actions, Travis, Jenkins).

  • Skilled in monitoring, logging, and debugging tools like Datadog to ensure application health and rapid issue resolution.

  • Familiarity with relational databases (MySQL, Aurora RDS) and backend technologies (Java, Node.js) is a plus.

  • Experience with AWS deployment tooling and cloud platforms is a bonus.

  • Proven ability to lead and mentor engineers, drive architectural decisions, and influence cross-team technical strategy.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Thrives in fast-moving agile environments and embraces continuous improvement and innovation.

Preferred Qualifications / Bonus Skills
  • Experience with one or more object-oriented backend languages such as Ruby, Java, or Node.js.

  • Knowledge of infrastructure-as-code, micro-frontend architectures, and cloud-native development approaches.

  • Experience in software delivery pipelines and automated testing frameworks.
