About the role.

As a Senior Technical Writer, you create clear, accurate, and engaging documentation that helps developers, operators, and enterprise and open source users succeed with our products on their digital transformation journey. This role combines deep technical understanding, editorial leadership, and the ability to drive documentation strategy across multiple teams and product areas.

You'll work in a docs-as-code environment using a modern documentation stack, including Markdown, Hugo, Git, VS Code (or Cursor) — to build, version, and publish high-quality content alongside product releases. You'll also help shape our documentation processes, tooling, and standards to ensure we deliver world-class technical content that scales with our products and teams.

This is a remote role for applicants based in the US. At this time, Solo.io is unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a permanent, ongoing basis without the need for current or future sponsorship.

Job Description:

  • Plan, write, and maintain high-quality customer-centric content for Solo.io's enterprise products and open source communities, including step-by-step instructions, API, CLI, GUI, Helm, and other reference documentation.
  • Effectively manage multiple documentation projects simultaneously, balancing competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Proactively engage with engineers, product managers, customer success, and the field to gather accurate technical details, assess documentation needs, verify customer use cases, and validate documentation.
  • Champion a "docs as code" approach, integrating documentation into the development lifecycle.
  • Test product features, APIs, CLI, and workflows to verify accuracy, reproduce procedures, and uncover gaps or ambiguities before publishing documentation.
  • Contribute feedback on usability, terminology, and design during product development and pre-release testing.
  • Participate in frequent, collaborative peer reviews, offering and receiving feedback openly and constructively, with a focus on quality improvement.
  • Help evaluate, adopt, and develop new tools or workflows that make the documentation processes more efficient.

Job Requirements:

  • 4+ years as a technical writer for cloud-native, Kubernetes-based platforms, APIs, developer tools, or similar.
  • Strong ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly, concisely, and accurately for developer audiences.
  • Hands-on experience testing product features, APIs, and workflows to verify accuracy and reproduce procedures for documentation.
  • Proven ability to independently manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously, meeting deadlines without sacrificing quality.
  • Excellent collaboration skills — experience working with engineers, product managers, customer success, field, and marketing teams.
  • Proficiency with docs-as-code workflows, including Markdown, Git, and CI/CD-based publishing pipelines.
  • Familiarity with scripting or basic programming (YAML, Python, Go, or similar) to validate examples and workflows.
  • Experience with static site generators, such as Hugo and integrating documentation into software release processes.
  • Comfortable adopting AI into documentation practices.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, accurate, and user-focused documentation.
