Apptronik is building robots for the real world to improve human quality of life and to help solve the ever-increasing labor shortage problem. Our team has been building some of the most advanced robots on the planet for years, dating back to the DARPA Robotics Challenge. We apply our expertise across the full robotics stack to some of the most important and impactful problems our society faces, and expect our products and technology to change the world for the better.  We value passion, creativity, and collaboration to help us overcome existing technological barriers in the industry to create truly innovative products.

You will join a team developing state-of-the-art general-purpose robots designed to operate in human spaces and with human tools. It is designed to work alongside humans, mobilize to human spaces, and manipulate the world around it.

JOB SUMMARY

This person has proven hands-on capabilities developing planning and control algorithms for humanoid robots as well as a strong theoretical background in both model-based and model-free methods.  They will help drive the technical strategy for humanoid controls, implement key state-of-the-art locomotion and manipulation algorithms (in either C++ or Python) in simulation and on hardware, and provide technical leadership required to deliver performant, reliable robot behaviors. They will also implement rigorous unit and integration tests of these and existing algorithms, quantify their performance, and develop new features to drive continuous improvement. They will work as part of a team focused on developing a dynamic humanoid robot robust to unstructured environments and able to perform useful work in real customer applications.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES or KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Deliver state-of-the-art planning and controls algorithms on high performance humanoid robot hardware
  • Characterize and improve the quality of robot locomotion and manipulation
  • Contribute to the development of technical strategy and roadmaps for humanoid controls
  • Collaborate with Autonomy, Perception, and other teams to enable a broad range of robot behaviors
  • Implement rigorous unit and integration testing of control algorithms and implementation
  • Maintain comprehensive and accurate technical documentation
  • Deliver reliable software through code reviews, continuous integration, and automated testing
