We are thrilled to offer an exciting opportunity for a Staff Backend Software Engineer to join the Consumer Technology organization at Realtor.com. This role empowers you to make a significant impact on our the consumer experience (70M+ monthly active users) by delivering exceptional technical solutions, utilized across our web and mobile teams. Our consumers are at the core of everything we do, driving our mission to provide an unparalleled user experience. As part of our team, you’ll collaborate with a diverse group of engineers and technology professionals while partnering with internal stakeholders. Join us to revolutionize the real estate journey for buyers, owners, sellers, and renters, leveraging cutting-edge technology (such as GraphQL, Node.js, AWS) and many other innovative solutions.

What you'll do:

  • Design, build, and maintain our advanced Consumer Services platform, addressing present challenges and preparing for future scalability.
  • Partner with Product Managers, Analysts, Scientists, and Engineers to foster a dynamic and collaborative environment.
  • Lead the development of scalable backend-for-frontend solutions that empower frontend teams to excel.
  • Champion best practices to enhance quality, ensure rapid delivery, and set a high standard for technical excellence.
  • Mentor and guide team members, contributing to their professional growth and success.
  • Stay informed about emerging technologies, assessing their potential and recommending their adoption to strengthen our solutions and products.
  • Collaborate within a team that values innovation, inclusivity, and teamwork to deliver high-quality results.
  • Work within an Agile/Scrum product development framework to adapt and address challenges effectively.

What you'll bring:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: 8-10 years of professional experience in backend software engineering, particularly with microservices architecture.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in backend programming in Node.js.
    • Extensive experience designing and implementing APIs using GraphQL, including schema design, resolver implementation, and efficient data handling.
    • Expertise in building scalable, resilient, and fault-tolerant distributed systems.
    • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, with an understanding of cloud-native practices.
  • Leadership and Communication: Strong collaboration skills and the ability to effectively communicate across cross-functional teams.
  • Architecture Design: Experience designing scalable, performant, and secure microservices architectures that align with business needs.
  • Testing and DevOps: Knowledge of unit testing, integration testing, and CI/CD practices to ensure robust software delivery.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to analyze complex technical issues, identify root causes, and propose effective solutions that balance performance, scalability, and maintainability.
