About the Role

We’re looking for a UI/UX Designer who can bridge product thinking, user empathy, and high-quality visual execution.

This is not a “make it look pretty” role.

You’ll be responsible for designing experiences that help housing professionals make better decisions, faster — across our subscription products, data tools, and internal platforms. You should be equally comfortable mapping a user journey, designing a clean interface, and partnering with product and engineering to ship work that performs in the real world.

At HousingWire, design is not isolated — it’s deeply connected to product, revenue, and customer outcomes.

The HousingWire Way

We’re looking for someone who operates like an owner:

  • You don’t wait for perfect direction — you seek clarity and move forward
  • You care about outcomes, not just outputs
  • You give and receive feedback directly and respectfully
  • You balance speed with quality — and know when each matters
  • You operate as both a coach and player

What You’ll Do

  • Design intuitive, user-centered experiences across web and product surfaces
  • Evaluate and improve the user experience across our portfolio of brands, identifying opportunities to unify experiences and create flywheel effects between products
  • Translate complex data and workflows into simple, usable interfaces
  • Create wireframes, user flows, prototypes, and high-fidelity UI designs
  • Partner closely with product managers, engineers, and business stakeholders
  • Contribute to and evolve our design system and UI standards
  • Conduct lightweight user research and usability testing to inform decisions
  • Use data and user behavior to iterate and improve performance
  • Ensure consistency across experiences while adapting to different use cases
  • Support cross-functional initiatives where UX impacts growth, engagement, or retention

What You Bring

  • 3–6+ years of experience in UI/UX, product design, or interaction design
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating both UX thinking and polished UI execution
  • Experience designing for web-based products, SaaS platforms, or data tools
  • Ability to simplify complex problems into clear, usable solutions
  • Comfort working cross-functionally with product, engineering, and business teams
  • Proficiency in tools like Figma (or similar) for design and prototyping
  • Strong communication skills — you can explain why, not just what

And importantly:

  • You are a problem solver first, designer second
  • You don’t just take requirements — you challenge and improve them
  • You are comfortable working in a fast-moving, evolving environment

Nice to Have

  • Experience in media, data, real estate, or financial services
  • Experience using Mixpanel and Sanity to elevate user behavior and inform UX improvements
  • Experience contributing to or building design systems
  • Exposure to AI-powered product experiences

Why This Role Matters

This role sits at the intersection of product, data, and user experience.

The work you do will directly impact:

  • How users interact with our products
  • How effectively we communicate insights
  • How we grow and retain our customer base

You won’t just design screens — you’ll help shape how our products are experienced and how our business grows.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Position level: Mid-level individual contributor.
  • Salary range: $85,000–$110,000 base, depending on experience and location.
  • Bonus: Eligible for performance-based bonus.
  • 401(k) with employer match.
  • Comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision and ancillary coverage options.
  • Unlimited PTO plus Paid Parental Leave.
  • Hybrid/remote work options, depending on location and business needs.
