What’s the most in-demand programming language of 2017?

Apparently, that’s an easier question to ask than answer. Forbes ranked Python as number one, Coding Dojo ranked SQL as the top dog, Stackify said JavaScript was the most popular based on GitHub numbers this year, and New Relic named Java the leading language last year.

Regardless of its exact ranking, one thing is consistent: Python is always among the top five. The language — named after the TV show Monty Python’s Flying Circus — continues to cement its position as a top prereq for developer jobs in Austin.

Today, we're tipping our hats to five companies looking for Python pros now.

Athenahealth provides hospitals and ambulatory clients with cloud-based electronic health records services that include revenue cycle management and medical billing, patient engagement, care coordination and population health management. The company has seven offices including its headquarters in Massachusetts and a local office at the old power plant building.

Who they're looking for: Code slayers ready to contribute to Ihiji’s recently released product, ServiceManager. Candidates should have three or more years writing Python and a sense of humor — even if that means you laugh at bad jokes.
