David Gilardi- Introduction to Apache Cassandra™ + What’s New in 4.0
Apache Cassandra™ has been making a difference for applications that scale for over 10 years! If you haven’t had a chance to get to know our favorite database, this is your chance to get the basics. In this talk, we’ll go over the fundamentals, including Cassandra’s distributed architecture, data model and what it means for your application. We’ll also cover what’s coming in 4.0 in the coming year.

David Gilardi (@SonicDMG) is a Developer Advocate at DataStax who is a total nerd for distributed databases. He has over 20 years of relevant experience in programming, database administration, cloud, server/network monitoring, and analytics. Before his time at DataStax he was Senior Development Manager at Hobsons, an education services company, responsible for a flagship SaaS CRM product deployed on hybrid cloud using a combination of relational and NoSQL database technologies.

Jonathan Ellis- Cloud Databases & C*
If you are interested in the scalable databases that run the largest cloud applications, this talk is for you. I'll give an overview of the similarities and differences between the main cloud databases: Apache Cassandra, Amazon DynamoDB, Microsoft Azure Cosmos DB, and Google Cloud Spanner. I'll provide a comparison of expressivity, performance, and cost characteristics of these databases, including bleeding edge results from Java 11 and ZGC.

As the founding project chair of Apache Cassandra, Jonathan (@spyced) built the Cassandra community into an open source success. Jonathan is Chief Technology Officer and co-founder at DataStax, where he sets the technical direction for the company.
