5 Austin tech companies filling senior dev roles like crazy

Experience matters when it comes to senior developer roles. Companies often look for candidates with at least five years of engineering work, a track record of mentoring and collaborating, and side projects that elevate their craft. Across the tech industry, and especially here in Austin, these roles are in high demand. Check out five local companies adding senior engineers immediately.

What they do: HomeAway, an Expedia Inc. company, hosts an online marketplace for vacation rentals with over 1.2 million available rental properties worldwide. The HomeAway portfolio includes rental websites HomeAway.com, VRBO.com and VacationRentals.com, in the U.S., as well as sites in the U.K., Germany, France, Spain, Brazil, Australia, New Zealand and Asia Pacific.  

Who they are looking for: Analytical problem solvers with solid communication skills and a knack for collaboration. At least five years experience and a B.S. or M.S. in computer science or equivalent work experience are required for most of the above positions, with some requiring more.

What they do: Marketing automation startup eRelevance supports the SMB sector by leveraging proprietary technology that creates more buying opportunities from repeat customers. The startup launched in 2013, and has reported six consecutive quarters of triple digit growth.

Who they are looking for: A senior Ruby on Rails developer who is jazzed about working on a Rails stack with a lot of new development. BCS or BSCS required with at least four years of web application experience and one year developing web apps with Rails. Preferred candidates have previously mentored software developers in developing features that are reusable and scalable.

What they do: Idean is a design firm launched from Finland in 1999. Since then, it’s grown to a team of over 170 developers, adding offices in Austin, Palo Alto, LA, Dallas, NYC and San Francisco. The company is bringing on multiple senior UI developers to its local office. 

Who they are looking for: Positive people with at least five years of experience and a portfolio that boasts a wide range of abilities. Required: a mindset that you can change the world through user experience.

What they do: As an innovation lab for The Home Depot, BlackLocus works with data scientists and business analysts to design data mining and machine learning algorithms that inform and automate pricing, assortment and product decisions.

Who they are looking for: Local senior coders experienced with either Java, Python, Golang or JavaScript as their preferred language. Strong collaborators with communication skills as strong as their technical abilities. Bonus if candidates have cool projects on GitHub.

What they do: With more than 5,000 customers, AlienVault unifies the collection of security tools used by businesses into one location with real-time threat intelligence. Its management platform provides active and passive network discovery, vulnerability monitoring and assessment, intrusion detection and more.

Who they are looking for: Seasoned developers with at least seven years experience. Fluency in Spanish across all three positions is a big plus, as is previous history working in network and application security.
