Amherst is hiring for an Associate Data Modeler to provide research and production support to our modeling analytics team which develops data models that provide accurate and consistent valuations for our investment strategies. 

Ideal Candidate:

  • Will have a strong understanding of data structures, data manipulation, and query efficiency techniques. 
  • Smart, hardworking and have a passion for applying their knowledge in statistics and data analysis to optimize our business decision making

Responsibilities:

  • Support modeling analytics team through research and production support
  • Maintain and enhance analytic applications and data structures used for modeling and forecasting
  • Create and document technical and user processes
  • Support modeling analytics team through project initiatives, research and business objectives
  • Liaison between the business units, technology teams and support teams to insure clear communications among stakeholders
  • Develops documentation, reports, and project plans and prepares and may present briefings and staff seminars.
  • Build relationships with development teams, leads, clients and users
  • Demonstrate strong intellectual curiosity and is constantly looking to learn new skills
  • Work with business partners to help identify, analyze and resolve any issues
  • Be a change agent, ensuring users embrace new and innovative technology

Requirements:

  • MS or Ph.D. degree in a quantitative field; Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Operational Research, etc. 
  • High-level interest in working in fixed interest capital markets
  • Strong quantitative and analytical problem-solving skills
  • Hands-on experience with one or more statistical software packages (R, SAS, Matlab, etc.)
  • Knowledge and understanding of econometric and statistical techniques
  • Ability to handle large datasets and to interpret fixed-income market data
  • Must be an intellectually curious self-starter and motivated to continually learn
  • Proactive, hardworking team player with strong communication skills 

 Pluses:

  • Knowledge or experience in structured finance industry
  • Programming experience (SQL, C++, C#, etc.)
  • Experience with BI tools such as Tableau, SSRS, Cognos, etc.
