The Role

The Tesla Dimensional Engineer (Product Launch and Sustaining) is responsible to assure that the established dimensional and tolerances strategies are implemented on Tesla US Factories to meet build objective requirements achieving world class quality and high volume.

We are seeking a passionate team member to represent the Dimensional Engineering team and lead the initiatives at the Tesla US Factories. The candidate will identify and help to root cause the major Dimensional/Craftsmanship Issues in the factory.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and prioritize Dimensional and Craftsmanship issues requiring resolution. Drive resolution of Dimensional and Craftsmanship issues through quantitative data analysis, negotiation and influence
  • Track status and report progress for critical issues, at management level
  • Audit the quality systems and dashboards to make sure the information is communicated correctly globally
  • Support the development of measurement requirements to ensure product build meets design criteria
  • Support local suppliers to ensure dimensional requirements are understood and appropriate fixture designs are in place
  • Craftsmanship build objective target validation. (Including 1D analysis). Regular vehicle reviews, subjective craftsmanship/quality assessment
  • Discovery of poor build quality conditions and identification/ownership of paths to resolution

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Familiarity GD&T and ASME Y14.5-2009
  • Catia or similar CAD system experience. 1D and 3D dimensional variation analysis (Preferred)
  • Design for Six sigma and Root Cause Analysis
  • Gauge and checking Fixture design or validation experience
  • Knowledge in a variety of production and prototype manufacturing methods
  • An understanding of how subjective data can be measured or quantified to develop robust, representative targets
  • Ability to statistically analyze measurement data in order to root cause dimensional issues and recommend mitigation and solution actions
