The Role

The Design Technology team develops and manages software platforms and tooling for product design (energy, solar, passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles). To support Tesla's rapid pace of innovation, the team is looking to add a Site Reliability Engineer to help take Tesla's design platforms to the next level. Design Technology SRE will typically manage on-premises Kubernetes clusters that run on Linux and Windows, CI/CD, and developing features for internal tools. A successful candidate would have a background in both software development and systems, familiarity with both Linux and Windows, and have a drive for: automation, configuration as data, and enabling rapid development iterations.

Responsibilities

  • Capacity planning and working with on-prem infrastructure
  • Setting up CI/CD pipelines for application testing and deployment
  • Participate in a rotational on-call schedule
  • Have a mindset of Everything as a service (self-service is key for our engineers)
  • Developing internal web apps, e.g., on-demand instances for application developers
  • Configuring application monitoring and alerting

    Requirements

  • 3+ years SRE/Software Engineer, including experience with Linux, git, bash, and web development
  • Containers and container orchestration platforms (Docker/Kubernetes)
  • Generic servers/proxies (nginx, apache, haproxy, etc.)
  • Web development best practices (12 factor applications)
  • Configuration as Data and gitops (Terraform, ArgoCD, github actions, etc.)

    Nice to Know:

  • Go programming
  • Containerizing Windows applications
  • Containerizing Java applications
  • Configuration management tools (Puppet, Ansible, etc.)
