 Job Summary:

The Sr. Program Manager will implement and manage the operational strategy and processes necessary to ensure Platform Engineering is operating efficiently and effectively. This role is responsible for a) ensuring Platform Engineering is predictable and efficient, b) managing and implementing processes and tools to support the growth and evolving needs of the business, and c) providing action-based analysis of KPIs and operational reporting. This is a collaborative role that requires building strong relationships with internal business partners, including Engineering, Product, IT, and Support.  

Responsibilities:

  • Release Program Management
    • Project manage large, complex engineering releases that span multiple teams and require significant logistical support and coordination.
    • Create and maintain Release Program Management (RPM) sites for all managed releases.
    • Maintain and communicate Executive Dashboard reporting that serves as the source-of-truth for release delivery status for all engineering activity.
  • Business Analysis
    • KPI / OKRs: Lead the process and evaluate progress against key results (Key Performance Indicators) to drive delivery accountability.
    • Identify changes and action plans necessary to ensure goals are met.
    • Provide trending analysis where appropriate to ensure business is being run efficiently in all areas, including but not limited to “velocity”, utilization, and delivery reliability.
    • Identify and implement data quality focus areas necessary to enforce critical business processes.
  • Resource Management & Capacity Planning
    • Capacity Planning: In collaboration with product and engineering management, drive the capacity forecasting process to ensure the business is proactively planning to balance supply (staff) and demand (product releases) 3-6 months in the future.
    • Ensure release planning is done with enough lead time so as to ensure utilization gaps are minimized.
    • As needed, coordinate alternative staffing sources to meet spikes in Platform Engineering release demand, e.g. 3rd party contractors, “loaner” personnel from other parts of the business.
  • Operational Process and Tools
    • Process definition and change management: Define operational process gaps and improvement areas to constantly improve the efficiency of engineering delivery.
    • Project manage large, complex internal cross-functional initiatives where a clear owner is not obvious.
    • Responsible for structuring and executing operational and strategic initiatives by developing work plans, gathering and synthesizing relevant data, leading analyses and developing recommendations.
    • Serve as a close management advisor on operational strategy and change management.
    • Ensure cohesion and shared understanding of goals, initiatives, team performance, service levels.
    • Ensure the quality, timeliness and coordination of operations program components to drive change for the engineering organization, including changes to business systems, staff training, production of operational metrics, and new or enhanced business processes. 

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of program management experience in a software company
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience managing software projects, both large and small
  • Experience managing in an Agile environment preferred
  • Experience building programs, improving processes, procedures and communications, improving program efficiency, influencing leaders and service providers, and driving high levels of customer satisfaction
  • Business analysis and operations experience
  • Proven ability to use metrics and data to drive decision making
  • Experience as a leader who can prioritize well, communicate clearly, and influence cross functional teams
  • Experience managing full time employees and contractors
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple stakeholder needs in a fast paced environment
  • Proven leader who has a demonstrated track record of managing a team with on-time delivery of projects
  • Demonstrated success implementing and managing operational processes across large teams
  • Excellent partnering and collaboration skills with both internal stakeholders
  • Ability to work and thrive in a fast changing, results driven environment
  • Proven ability to make organizations measurable and predictable
  • Ability to travel as needed (< 20%)
