Lead Artist

Rooster Teeth Games is looking for an experienced Lead Artist who can bring their knowledge, creativity and experience to a fast-paced, game development environment. The ideal candidate is a great communicator and supervisor that leads by example creating content alongside the art team they manage, and motivating them to produce the highest quality content possible. To succeed, you must be able to take charge of creative teams and have excellent technical art skills to match.

  • Work with the Creative Director to establish the overall art direction of the game
  • Lead by example concepting, modeling, texturing, and lighting game-ready assets
  • Establish creative and technical standards by determining the best tools and techniques, and teaching the art team how to use them successfully
  • Lead, mentor, and motivate an art team to maintain the highest quality art standards
  • Develop content creation guidelines for the art team and help enforce best practices
  • Work with tech artists to develop the art pipeline ensuring an optimized workflow between all toolsets (Maya, Zbrush, Substance, Photoshop, Unreal, Perforce, etc)
  • Collaborate with Production, Design and Engineering teams to ensure the Creative Director’s vision is consistent across all aspects of game development


  • Amazing portfolio showing a strong knowledge of modeling, texturing, animation, lighting, UI, VFX, and conceptual design
  • 5+ years professional game production experience in a Senior or Lead Artist role
  • Shipped at least 2 game titles, from pre-production to final release (preferably a AAA console or PC title)
  • Excellent artistic eye for shape, proportion, lighting, composition, and color
  • Expert knowledge of Maya, Zbrush, Substance, Photoshop, and Unreal
  • Expert knowledge of Physically Based Rendering (PBR) tools and techniques
  • Ability to manage and mentor an art team of various skills and experience levels
  • Extremely flexible & adaptable to new tools, environments, and unexpected challenges
  • Working knowledge of Perforce (or source control equivalent)
  • Comfortable iterating on ideas using rapid prototyping techniques
  • Positive team-oriented attitude with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proactive and self-motivated (comfortable working without direct supervision)
  • Must be comfortable working in a small, highly collaborative team
  • Must be able to accept critique of your work and have the ability to embrace change
  • Must have a sense of humor
