Data Stewardship Community Developer

Location: Virtual/Remote

What You Will Do
 

Data Stewardship Community Developer Role Description

The Data Stewardship Community Developer will become a subject matter expert in Data Governance processes and be able to communicate and teach these processes to a wide audience of data stewards across Ascension data domains. This person will foster engagement from identified data stewards and help build a community around their functional data domain. The Data Stewardship Community Developer champions Data Governance efforts, focusing on data definitions, data quality, and standardized processes. 

 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

 

  • Becomes a subject matter expert for data governance processes and our Data Governance Platforms (Collibra, Informatica Data Quality)
  • Conducts end-user trainings to teach data stewards about the platforms
  • Actively engages with others to communicate about changes, listen, and obtain feedback for sharing within Data Governance
  • Inspires and influences others to adopt changes in mindset and behavior
  • Develops documentation and job aids to assist onboarding of new data stewards
  • Maintain continuous dialog with data stewardship community and evangelize data stewardship and data governance across Ascension
  • Champions changes to job roles, systems/technology, organization structures, and business practices
  • Understands what is changing, why, how, who is impacted, and the benefits
  • Collect and synthesize constraints/enhancements/suggestions from the stewardship community to help drive continuous improvement
  • Monitors overall progress of data stewards
  • Builds dashboards to highlight data quality issues
  • Identifies and reports data quality issues, related to uniqueness, integrity, accuracy, consistency, and completeness in a timely fashion
  • Collaborates with Master Data Management, Data Delivery and all other Ascension Technologies teams to manage and resolve identified data quality issues.
  • Participate in regularly scheduled and ad hoc data steward meetings, forums, work groups, and educational sessions
  • Participate in training and meetings to facilitate the sharing of data across functional areas and understanding of stewardship best practices and facilitate the sharing of data stewardship best practices 
  • Understand high-level data processes and down-stream impacts within decision making 

 

SKILLS:

 

  • Excellent oral, verbal and written communication skills
  • Communicate effectively with diverse people at various organization levels with right level of detail and cultural sensitivity
  • Strong meeting facilitation skills as well as presentation skills
  • Ability to teach/train others complex processes and workflows
  • Ability to create training materials and other artifacts to support the data stewardship community
  • Ability to analyze and document complex processes and sub-processes
  • Ability to learn new platforms and software
  • Ability to use the Data Governance Platforms (walk the talk)
  • Query data for aiding discovery of definitions
  • Improve data quality and create dashboards to highlight enhancement opportunities

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Computer Science, Information Technology, Mathematics or other related major
  • Experiencing speaking to diverse audiences and delivering training preferred
  • Experience working in a healthcare environment preferred
  • Experience working in Data Governance or related field preferred
  • General knowledge of hospital operations, patient management, the interrelationship of systems, and how technology enables business processes
  • Basic knowledge of backend database configuration and processes
  • Previous provider and clinical systems knowledge is preferred, both in the inpatient and ambulatory settings

What You Will Need
 

Education:

  • High school diploma/GED with 2 years of experience, or Associate's  degree, or Bachelor's degree required.

Work Experience:

  • 3 years of experience preferred.
