Key Responsibilities of the Senior Data Engineer:
• Create and maintain systems to load and transform large data sets from various internal sources.
• Act as subject matter expert for technologies like MySQL, Redshift and AWS Data Pipeline.
• Work with Software Engineering teams and Product Owners to include new data sources and types in ETL processes, as well as assist in deploying schema changes.
• Work with our Data Scientist and Business Intelligence team to create data-driven insights and reports for senior management.
• Perform daily monitoring, administration, repair and maintenance related to databases and related technologies in all environments.
• Participate on an on-call rotation supporting production systems during off-hours.
Basic Job Requirements of the Senior Data Engineer:

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience
Minimum 5 years of experience working with open source databases
Minimum 3 years of experience working with ETL
Highly proficient in open source SQL systems, particularly MySQL and PostgreSQL
Proficiency in multiple scripting languages, including Python and Ruby
Demonstrable experience with cloud-based ETL tools, including EMR and Data Pipeline
Expertise with distributed data stores, with demonstrable experience using Redshift
Expertise with optimizing query performance
Deep understanding of data structures and schema design
Experience with AWS ecosystem, particularly RDS, Data Pipeline, SQS and SNS
Exceptional analytical, organizational, interpersonal and communication (both oral and written) skills
Self-motivated, driven, resourceful and able to get things done
Enjoy working in fast-paced, collaborative, Agile environments
Ability to adapt and learn quickly is a fundamental necessity

Preferred Experience of the Senior Data Engineer:

Experience with the Hadoop ecosystem and data streaming technologies, such as Storm, Spark and Kafka
Previous work with Continuous Integration systems (Jenkins, Bamboo, Travis CI, etc.)
Available for on-call rotation for off-hour support of production systems
Experience with other programming languages and platforms, such as Scala, Java or C#/NET/Mono
Knowledge of columnar and no-SQL systems, such as Redshift, Aerospike and Vertica
Experience working with distributed teams and in a rapidly scaling start-up environments
Knowledge and applicable experience with agile methodologies such as SCRUM
Working in a production environment, preferably with a SaaS company
