We're hiring a Director of User Research to lead and mentor a global team of researchers, providing direction, pushing the quality of the work, and inspiring a strong research culture. A strategic thinker, you will partner with design and product leaders to set vision and priorities and you will deliver on core parts of our global strategy, pushing the boundaries of ease expectations across our ecosystem of products.


You are comfortable with both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies, familiar with digital inclusion, and have expertise in applying the appropriate methodology for any given business objectives and project constraints. You have a track record of leadership experiences driving User Research to the next level, initiating, planning, and executing large research initiatives, and evangelizing research findings to make insights actionable to drive product strategy and design for both new and existing products. The role will require someone comfortable with ambiguity, minimal direction, and who can thrive in

rapidly-evolving global environments.

WHAT YOU'LL WORK ON

  • Build a vision and strategy for the User Research team at Babylon and be the driving force for trust and psychological safety within the chapter.
  • Lead and mentor a team of researchers internationally, ensuring quality and consistency of delivery for the team.
  • Manage a team of both Research Managers and Individual Contributors working across agile product teams.
  • Oversee team engagement and performance, including goal setting, ongoing feedback, and performance reviews.
  • Partner closely with Marketing, Product Analytics, Experience Design and Product Management Leadership to influence the portfolio strategy and align roadmaps with validated user research findings from your team.
  • Proactively identify, define, prioritize, and deliver high-value customer research initiatives that align with our key business strategies and objectives.
  • Guide researchers on the design and execution of generative, formative, and summative research to support product design and development (including but not limited to ethnography, interviews, surveys, concept testing, and usability studies).
  • Guiding Behavioral Science function to support the business with evidence-based practice
  • Advocating for the user and working with the XD team to ensure we are solving the right problems and can measure demonstrable impact on the user.
  • Ensure that work undertaken by the team is clearly tied to measurable business outcomes.
  • Communicate the impact and opportunities from research to a range of stakeholders at different levels
  • Partner with legal, privacy, safety, Medical Device regulatory and quality (MDRQ) and Design/Research Ops teams to form and follow User Research protocols and processes; oversee and represent MDRQ related usability research, documentation, and audits.
  • Partner with Design / Research Operations in resource planning, research budget, hiring process and pipeline, research vendor management, process standardization, and tool selection and usage
  • Forecast resource needs and grow the team to provide necessary capabilities and expertise.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • At least 15 years or equivalent combination of education and experience successfully applying user research methods to the design of great products
  • Experience growing and managing a team of mixed method researchers of varying levels including managers, and the ability to build, mentor, and motivate teams
  • Experience establishing research strategy that connects with business strategy
  • A toolkit of qualitative and quantitative research methods and frameworks
  • Experience working with internationalization or research in multiple global markets
  • Experience in agile and lean product design methodologies in product development
  • Proven expertise managing inclusive, accessible and ethical design research initiatives
  • Innate curiosity and deep empathy for human experience in health and technology
  • Experience in the healthcare industry or comparable regulated environments
