ABOUT THIS ROLE

At Bright Health we are taking a new approach to health care, by delivering health insurance in partnership with our Care Partner Health Systems. To support our rapid growth, we are seeking a highly collaborative Engineering Delivery Manager to help drive efforts to ship high quality software at a sustainable pace, applying industry-leading processes, platforms, and tools.

As an Engineering Delivery Manager at Bright. you will be responsible leading and facilitating the successful implementation and expansion of the Bright Health data platform. The overarching objective of the platform is to make all data at Bright consistent, compliant and available at high velocity to all functional areas within the company and to our Care Partners outside the company. In partnership with the Data Platform Architect, and under the leadership of the VP of Engineering, you will be accountable for the implementation of a cloud-based data platform for our rapidly growing enterprise.

Bright has grown rapidly both in terms of employees, and the number of Care Partner Health Systems with which we partner. We will continue to add partnerships, vendors, and others to our data ecosystems as we rapidly expand across the United States. As a result – our environment is rich, complex and fast moving. The software and infrastructure the team delivers must be resilient, extensible, and scalable in order to not only keep pace with, but accelerate, our progress.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure teams regularly ship high quality software that drives the Bright Health business forward
  • Assist in driving the tactical implementation of an overarching data architecture vision and strategy to maximize the optimization of our enterprise data asset
  • Deliver projects and products using the appropriate agile/lean project management methodologies, learning and iterating frequently
  • Run Scrum team ceremonies
  • Lead in working with Bright InfoSec, SREs, and Microsoft resources in ensuring that teams can nimbly deploy to Azure, while maintaining a secure and compliant environment.
  • Collaborate with engineering leadership and individual contributors to conduct security and resiliency profiling exercises
  • Lead in producing high quality, team-level technical documentation, delegating to individual contributors, when appropriate
  • Work with engineering leadership, business and product owners to clarify roadmap initiatives and translate them into user stories
  • Lead the collaborative, dynamic planning process, prioritizing the work against the capacity and capability of the team
  • Remove roadblocks to productivity and provide problem-solving capability to individual contributors
  • Collaborate with the technology leadership team to establish, teach and operate great software engineering practices
  • Operate high quality, cloud-based data services, ensuring uptime and performance within SLOs
  • Facilitate established processes for code reviews and QA, and help identify and implement tools that drive both
  • Collaborate with engineering leadership in the execution of a quality assurance plans
  • This position reports to the VP of Engineering; there are no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree or comparable work experience. Computer Science or similar preferred
  • Proficiency in one or more languages – Java, C#, SQL, JavaScript, C++, Python, PowerShell, etc.
  • Proficiency with application development against database systems – including at a minimum RDBMS (SQL Server/Postgres/Oracle) and ideally familiarity with NoSQL systems as well
  • Familiarity with Azure a plus
  • Healthcare data background a strong plus
  • Track record of shipping great software experience and services as a de-facto technical team lead
  • Understanding of DevOps culture and process; cloud-based DevOps experience a plus
  • 4+ years of overall software development experience, with demonstrated leadership capabilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Flexible, team player, “get-it-done” personality
  • Ability to organize and plan work independently
