Lead QA Engineer

Pingboard is looking for a talented, experienced Lead QA Engineer to join our team. At Pingboard, we’re building the world’s best org chart and collaborative people planning tool (read our master plan here.) We’re looking for a thoughtful, talented person to help build outstanding software that meets the needs of great companies around the world.

This role will be part of the product team. Our product team works in 6-week Seasons (similar to Basecamp’s Cycles). We think through problems carefully and define solutions that allow us to release and iterate quickly, while still building a solid foundation. We collaborate to set reasonable goals, balance building new features with refactoring and refining, and safeguard the team’s time once priorities are set. We work in Ruby, JavaScript, and have native iOS and Android apps.

Pingboard is committed to building an inclusive team with diverse backgrounds and life experiences. This role is based in the fabulous city of Austin. Applicants outside of Austin with extensive remote work experience are also encouraged to apply!

You’re excited about this role because you’ll:

  • Take the lead in developing and improving the QA process at Pingboard
  • Test the functionality, performance, security, accessibility, and usability of our web and mobile apps
  • Write and execute detailed test plans that incorporate risk as a key factor
  • Do exploratory testing to find issues and scenarios test plans don't capture
  • Automate tests whenever possible
  • Champion the user experience: does it work and does it work well?
  • Work together with product managers, designers, and engineers throughout the development lifecycle, not just as a last-minute gate when everyone else is trying to push a release

We’re excited about you because you have:

  • At least 5 years of industry experience
  • Extensive experience writing and executing manual test plans
  • Built automated unit and integration tests
  • A drive to build a product that you’re proud of
  • Worked with Selenium or other automated testing tools
  • Experience testing native mobile applications
  • Worked on a small team and owned your work
  • Experience with Git and code versioning
  • A deep appreciation for details and a drive to make things better
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Extra Credit:

  • Familiarity with Jest JavaScript and RSpec Ruby testing frameworks
  • Experience managing 3rd party software testing teams
  • Experience with performance and security testing

To support you in your work, we offer:

  • A supportive environment where you can be your authentic self
  • An experienced leadership team committed to transparency
  • A focus on results, not long hours
  • Our office in South Austin, with standing desks and company tab at a nearby coffee shop
  • Competitive salary and equity stake in the company
  • Medical & dental coverage
  • Open vacation policy and 10 company holidays
  • 401K
