Invitae’s internal Cloud Platform team provides the rest of engineering with tools and systems that make building software faster and more efficient. The mission is to create the systems upon which we build the rest of Invitae. The platform provides self-service tooling, automation, and application deployment technology to support Invitae’s efforts to expand genetic services.

We are looking for a  Lead Software Engineer, Automation  to join our Cloud Platform team  who can design, evangelize, and build a new automation framework using modern, scalable technologies.

Automation Technologies make work scalable. We’ve been using Jenkins and related technologies for years to stitch together various software and business processes. The system has reached its scale capacity, both in reliability and complexity. 

What you’ll do:

• You will provide developer support for the new systems we build
• You will help support the old Jenkins based system while building its replacement
• Our current best thinking centers around GitHub Actions and Kubernetes. We will be looking to you to define the solution. 
• With the support of the rest of the cloud platform team, we will move all of engineering onto this platform and finally nuke the old one from orbit
• Passionate about being a hands-on lead -- you will get your hands dirty and will be leading from the trenches

What you bring:

• Bring fresh ideas and a can-do attitude 
• Experienced in brownfield re-architectures, from beginning to end
• Familiarity with a broad spectrum of automation technologies. Jenkins, Ansible, GitHub Actions, k8s cron jobs, etc.
• Experienced leading as a member of the team
• Passionately opinionated and pragmatic when designing solutions
• Customer (other engineers in our case) focused
• Experienced with containerization technologies like Docker
• Experienced with developer support / DevOps
• Preferred:  start-up mentality/background where you handled a diverse set of responsibilities
