Hyliion is seeking a highly motivated and technically capable Quality Control Inspector to join our team in Cedar Park, TX. This position will be responsible for ensuring that all incoming products meet the established standards for quality, reliability, and performance in support of the Company’s Quality Plan. The successful candidate will have a history of inspecting complex sheet metal fabrications as well as precision machined parts and documenting the results.

  • Demonstrate a safe and focused quality approach utilizing common inspection tools and best practice inspection methods
  • Perform all duties in a safe manner working within a designated manufacturing environment and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment as required
  • Responsible for inspection of incoming parts, assemblies and accompanying documentation to ensure conformance to specified engineering requirements
  • Develop inspection plans and quality control processes to define acceptance and rejection criteria for both vendor supplied and in-house production parts
  • Submit detailed Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) for specific defects identified during the inspection process for management review and analysis
  • Work with purchasing to effectively resolve and disposition materials as required
  • Record, track and facilitate performance reporting on all parts inspection activities
  • Responsible for coordinating containment activities regarding non-conformances identified during receiving, assembly/build and installation processes
  • Responsible for managing gage calibration schedule and for maintaining current calibration records for all quality and all production end of line gages as applicable
  • Actively support the creation, revision and execution of documented Work Instructions, Standardized Operating Procedures, and Quality System Processes as assigned
  • Perform receiving process audits to assess compliance to established procedures
  • Serve as contributing member of Project Quality Team in support of 8D Problem Solving, Material Review Board & Engineering Change Control Board activities
  • Receive and inspect returned field service components according to established procedures and document findings, coordinate additional testing activities with Test & Validation team as required
  • Collaborate routinely with Engineering, Test Validation and Operations teams to support project quality objectives and continual process improvement initiatives

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with peers, as well as internal and external customers and suppliers as required
  • Computer competency to perform data entry, retrieval, logging of data, and show proficiency utilizing standard Microsoft Office Suite tools to analyze and present data
  • Demonstrated ability to retrieve, review and decipher test reports, manufacturer compliance certificates and technical data packages for traceability and completeness
  • Proficient in the performance and documenting of QC Tests utilizing standardized statistical sampling procedures (ANSI Z1.4) to determine lot and/or product acceptance
  • Demonstrated experience inspecting production parts with conventional measurement tools and gauges (Height Gages, Calipers, Micrometers, Thread & Pin Go/No-Go, etc.)
  • Advanced knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) conformance measuring methods and verification techniques per ANSI Y14.5-2018
  • Working knowledge of inspection tool calibration standard requirements along with inspection tool care and maintenance best practices
  • Demonstrated experience conducting First Article Inspections as well as ability to demonstrate strong follow-through skills working under minimal supervision
  • Ability to investigate and determine root causes, corrective and preventative measures for part, assembly, and component defects that arise during production
  • Ability to work well in a high-paced environment, set and meet appropriate deadlines
  • Willingness and ability to work more than 8 hours a day to ensure that deadlines are achieved weekly hours may regularly be between 50-60 during busy time periods

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5-7 years Quality inspection experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Advanced knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) conformance measuring methods and verification techniques per ANSI Y14.5-2018
  • Experience conducting and analyzing Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility (GR&R) studies with statistical programs like (Minitab, QI Macros, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering

  • Repetitive motions: Making substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.

Work Environment:

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
  • For the most part, ambient room temperatures, lighting and traditional equipment as found in a typical office
