Hyliion is looking for a Senior Software Requirements Engineer to join our engineering team in Austin. This full-time position offers the opportunity to be a part of a fast-growing company that is revolutionizing the trucking industry. We are seeking exceptionally talented individuals that are highly motivated to revolutionize an industry, reduce the use of fuel and have some fun. You will be joining an experienced engineering team in the design, simulation, implementation and testing of electrical powertrain systems. Reports to Director Controls and Software Engineering

  • Lead the creation and development of Hyliion software requirements for Class-8 truck applications (functional requirements, performance requirements, user requirements, input requirements, design requirements, operational requirements as well as constraints)
  • Capture requirements for Controls, Embedded Software, Cloud, Analytics, Mcom and HMI
  • Identify and implement best-in-class software requirements management toolsets
  • Work closely with business development and product development teams to ensure that product requirements are identified and negotiated prior to software build activities
  • Capture requirements for Controls, Embedded Software, Cloud, Analytics, Mcom and HMI
  • Manage outside engineering partners to ensure alignment on requirements and specifications
  • Manage team of Hyliion requirements engineers delegating tasks and managing against production milestones
  • Support the creation of APQP documents including FMEAs and DVP&Rs to drive product software reliability and robustness

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Experience in variety of requirements management toolsets (IBM DOORS …)
  • Experience with / Understanding of:
    • Electrified Components including Motors and Motor Controllers
    • Conventional Powertrain and OBD Requirements
    • AUTOSAR
    • ISO 26262
    • Software Processes and Quality Assurance
    • Software Requirements Management
    • Software Design and Automation
    • Software Testing Methods for Embedded Systems (MiL, SiL, PiL, RCP)
    • Security and Security Management Methods
    • J1939
    • Diagnostics / Prognostics
    • Cloud
    • Agile V-Model
    • Model based function implementation and integration
    • Battery Technologies & BMS
    • ADAS systems
    • Vehicle wiring systems
  • Experienced with cloud services and API’s, particularly REST API’s
  • Experience with communications protocols like CAN, USB, ethernet, TCP/IP
  • Understanding of networking and networked-computing concepts is required; specifically, synchronization, race conditions and debugging communication protocols
  • Competency with modern collaboration tools (like Slack, Jira Service Desk)
  • Experienced with Atlassian products including Confluence, Jira and Bitbucket
  • Experienced with the agile development process
  • Expert in developing high-level software architectures
  • APQP toolsets including FMEAs and DVP&R
  • Strong follow-through and self-starting nature
  • Ability to understand and follow complex verbal and written instructions
  • Position will involve travel visiting engineering providers and hardware suppliers
  • Ability to work well in a high-paced environment, set and meet appropriate deadlines
  • Ability to positively and effectively communicate with customers (internal and external), to address their needs promptly and to follow through on commitments

Required Qualifications:

  • 5 year experience in an automotive software environment
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical discipline

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to stand, sit, use of hands to handle, feel, or reach with hands and arms
  • Ability to lift and/ or move up to 25 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision

Work Environment:

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
