Bear & Giraffe is looking to hire a remote Software Engineer contract-to-hire with 2+ years of experience building web applications using modern web technologies. B&G is an Austin-based web development agency where you will get to work with a variety of clients, helping them build awesome, innovative products in numerous fields.

About You

Forget the lists of 10+ years of experience with some ridiculously specific tech requirements, and forget whiteboard interviews too. We are looking for someone who wants to learn and grow and can work independently, but is not afraid to ask questions. If you are the type of person who truly enjoys the challenge of tackling something new with an "I will figure it out" attitude, then B&G is the place for you.

For this position, we are looking for someone with production app experience building web applications using something like Ruby on Rails or Elixir/Phoenix, and familiarity with both the backend and frontend. A good understanding of OO principles, design patterns, and best practices are a great way to differentiate yourself, but a college degree is not required.

Your Day to Day

Your daily tasks will include some of the following:

• Standup call
• Writing code
• Sprint planning
• Backlog grooming
• Client meeting
• Mentor meeting/pairing session

We'll do everything we can to clear up your calendar so you can focus on doing what you love, solving problems, but every now and then, meetings happen.

You'll be working remotely, so no worries about the daily commute.  And if you need to take the dog out for a walk or put some laundry in the washing machine, go right ahead! We trust you to manage your time and think it's a great way to give your brain a break from the 1s and 0s.
