Hyliion is looking for a Senior Engineer – Thermal to join our engineering team in Austin. This full-time position offers the opportunity to be a part of a fast-growing company that is revolutionizing the trucking industry. We are seeking exceptionally talented individuals that are highly motivated to revolutionize an industry, reduce the use of fuel and have some fun.  You will be joining an experienced engineering team in the design, simulation, implementation and testing of electrical powertrain systems. Reports to Vehicle Integration Manager/Sr Manager or Thermal Manager/Sr. Manager

 

Essential Functions: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Lead Optimization of heating & cooling system of Cabin, HV Battery and or Driveline.
  • Work on Systems & Components including Radiator, Condenser, Heat Pump, Cooling modules w/ Fan, Cabin Air Handling, A/C, Heaters, related brackets, tubes and hoses.
  • Support sourcing of thermal components as needed.
  • Benchmarking of competitive Thermal Systems & Components.
  • Update Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) and Design Validation Plan and Reports (DVP&R) for System and Component.
  • Work with various Engineering groups, Software team, Supply Chain, Operations, Manufacturing, and Service Engineers to develop requirements, provide prototype parts, and support system level testing.
  • Create and present reports, with documentation of technical analysis, system trade-offs as well as business case for technologies.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Competency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience with data acquisition and analysis tools such as ETAS/INCA
  • Experience with thermal analysis tools like AMESim, Flowmaster, Kuli etc.
  • Working knowledge of relevant standards (SAE, ASME, and ISO).
  • Basic knowledge of Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001:2015) and Environmental Management Systems (ISO 14001:2015), as applicable.
  • Understanding of automotive powertrain systems including both traditional and hybrid
  • Experience in the automotive electronic systems.
  • Strong follow-through and self-starting nature
  • Ability to communicate with customers positively and effectively (internal and external), to address their needs promptly and to follow through on commitments
  • Ability to understand and follow complex verbal and written instructions
  • Position will involve travel (up to 10% of time) visiting test locations & suppliers etc.
  • Ability to work well in a high-paced environment, set and meet appropriate deadlines.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 5+ years of delivering technical products in a cross-functional team environment.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering

  • Ability to lift and/ or move up to 50 pounds

  • Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction and having the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and making fine discriminations in sound.
  • Repetitive motions: Making substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.

 

Work Environment:

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
  • For the most part, ambient room temperatures, lighting and traditional equipment as found in a typical office
