Hyliion is looking for a Test Engineer to join our engineering team in Austin. This full-time position offers the opportunity to be a part of a fast-growing company that is revolutionizing the trucking industry. We are seeking exceptionally talented individuals that are highly motivated to revolutionize an industry, reduce the use of fuel and have some fun.  You will be joining an experienced engineering team in the design, simulation, implementation, and testing of electrical powertrain systems.

  • Designing and building complex electromechanical systems, especially the control system and algorithm design.
  • Support validation team to develop and validate products ensuring they meet and exceed customer expectations
  • Develop specifications for Hyliion’s future test equipment for Cedar Park test equipment installation and build-out
  • Develop product validation equipment
  • Support work-order process to ensure that test requests are processed quickly and in order of priority
  • Manage validation technicians cascading and managing daily tasks
  • Lead the selection of toolsets and instrumentation for Hyliion’s current and future testing needs
  • Support the development of FMEAs and associated DVP&Rs for both Hardware and Software teams
  • Develop test specifications to ensure that the appropriate detection methods are in place for both hardware and software systems
  • Develop and manage KPIs for validation team
  • Create test reports and develop recommendations for product development team
  • Support problem resolution activities, assist in the facilitation of problem solving 8D workshops
  • Perform due diligence of Tier 1 test capabilities to ensure that validated products align with Hyliion’s requirements
  • Identify external test houses and support outsourced testing

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Strong understanding Class-8 trucks, their sub-systems and application requirements
  • Experience in vehicle electrification and state-of-the-art testing methodologies
  • Experience in Test Automation. It is expected that Hyliion’s test equipment will run 24 hours a day.
  • Experience in engine testing and associated emissions certifications
  • Expert in high voltage safety systems
  • Strong understanding of vehicle safety systems
  • Experience in electric powertrain testing
  • Experience in drivetrain testing
  • Experience in battery technology and testing methodologies
  • Experience in electrical and wiring systems testing
  • Expert in NVH and measurement methodologies
  • Expert in instrumentation and methodologies
  • Experience in APQP toolsets
  • Experience in SMED and 5S methodologies
  • Strong follow-through and self-starting nature
  • Ability to communicate with customers (internal and external) positively and effectively, to address their needs promptly and to follow through on commitments
  • Ability to understand and follow complex verbal and written instructions

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 2-5 Years’ Experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical engineering

Physical Demands: 

  • Ability to lift and/ or move up to 20 pounds
  • Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
  • Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  • Standing: Remaining upright on the feet, particularly for sustained periods of time.
  • Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
  • Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; those activities where detailed or important spoken instructions must be conveyed to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  • Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction and having the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and making fine discriminations in sound.
  • Repetitive motions: Making substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.

Work Environment:

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
  • For the most part, ambient room temperatures, lighting and traditional equipment as found in a typical office
