Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, the VP of Technology strategy drives intentional innovation in alignment with Blackbaud business strategies. This is a critical engineering and strategy leadership role requiring a strong background in private and public PAAS/IAAS, heterogeneous technical stacks, will have directed architecture strategy for an organization with a complex product portfolio, and will have led an organization through a successful transformation to a cloud solutions strategy. This person will be a natural collaborator and lead by influence as part of a team that defines and directs culture, technology, product and data strategy.
The role includes:
- Work with tech, data and Product Strategy leadership teams to define and evangelize the 3/5 year vision for Blackbaud
- Work with Product Management and UX to implement a user-centered design process, leading a cultural change across the company
- Evangelize, communicate and define/document the end-to-end technical solution roadmap for Blackbaud in partnership with Product Mgmt Leadership, Application Architecture, UX, Analytics COE, IECO (Operations), IT, and other key internal stakeholder groups including Corporate Strategy & Development, Partner Development and Professional services.
- Work closely with Product Management for Core and Platform/Developer Services, ensuring this work aligns with our overall tech strategy and that teams are making progress towards it.
- Shape the reference architecture at the company-wide platform level with a two (2) to five (5) year lens; consult with product and engineering architecture leaders to address gaps in the 3/5 year vision
- Work closely with the Product, Application Engineering and IECO teams to set and drive non-functional requirements standards and optimize cost across our portfolio. Stay on top of market trends for nonfunctional requirement (NFR’s), processes, culture and keeping us competitive with respect to NFR’s.
- Work closely with the Blackbaud Labs team to incubate new technology and drive our technology partner adoption/enablement
- Work closely with Product Management and Application Engineering to develop the “paved road” for non-Sky based solutions including infinity-based products, Luminate Online and acquired solutions.
- Working closely with UX, Product, IT and others, support and maintain focus on the customer journey from Blackbaud.com through renewal and all touchpoints in between.
- Manage and execute on technical due diligence for M&A efforts, including post-close integration with Blackbaud’s solutions as part of the post-close transition program.
- Provide guidance on technical standards and frameworks for use internally and within the partner ecosystem
- Build strong relationships and collaborate with architectural and engineering leadership across Blackbaud including Application Architecture, Security Architecture & Governance and Infrastructure Architecture.
- Drive standards library and frameworks for non-functional requirements across the engineering community.
- Lead the Blackbaud Product Architecture council and “OCTO” teams which include the lead architects, operations, security, IT, customer ops/services and product architects across the company.
- Mentor, influence, assist, and guide engineering strategy, architecture and execution across Blackbaud.
- Be a primary catalyst for culture change including a focus on the customer, empowering teams, devops, iterate/learn/ship, lean, etc.
Job Requirements:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science is required. A Masters/PhD is preferred.
- Minimum 15 years of progressive, hands-on engineering and architecture experience, preferably in a SAAS/PAAS/IAAS environment and across multiple technology areas (preferably depth experience in Java and .Net)
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a leadership role with proven track record of leading teams focused on new technology development across a large (500+ person) engineering organization operating in a cloud-context.
- Minimum 10 years people management experience.
- Must be willing to work from Blackbaud’s Charleston HQ or our Austin, Texas location.
- Travel required.
