About the Role
Shogun is looking for an Accountant to join our quickly growing team. You will be the first member of the finance team with an accounting background, and this is an opportunity to rapidly be exposed to, and run, every aspect of accounting at a fast-growing company. In this role you will be empowered to help build and support our key accounting processes and define how our function will collaborate with and support our growing company.
The Accountant will be a key individual in US GAAP accounting and reporting, play an important role in daily operations, month end closes, and system implementation. The ideal candidate should have a strong accounting background, preferably with 2+ years of experience.
Responsibilities
- Own daily accounting needs; manage payables and collections; and ensure accurate coding of all transactions
- Key contributor to monthly close process; prepare journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations, including revenue related schedules
- Manage employee expense reporting process
- Assist with annual financial audit process; prepare audit schedules
- Assist with annual tax returns
- Continuously identify and implement solutions to improve accounting procedures and efficiency
- Execute on ad-hoc projects
Requirements
- 2+ years of accounting experience
- Highly analytical with strong working knowledge of general operating accounting practices
- Highly detail oriented, possess effective project management skills, and strong ownership mindset
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively across functions in a fast-paced environment
- Experience with Excel; experience with Xero is a plus
- Experience overseeing all accounts payable activities
- Experience reconciling all bank and credit card accounts each month
- Experience recording and properly applying in the accounting system all bank deposits, disbursements, and credit card transactions
- Experience ensuring payroll entries are properly recorded and classified in the accounting system
- Experience with general journal entries—recording general journal entries as required (i.e. revenue recognition, fixed asset depreciation, accrued interest, prepaid amortization, etc.)
