Do you want to be in at the ground-level of a growing startup and play a foundational role in leading strategies and tactics for clients across the state of Texas? Matterlab seeks a Texas Account Manager to work alongside the CEO and VP to independently manage and collaboratively service key education accounts statewide.

Strategic Account Management (50-70%)

    • Understand, analyze, and interpret K-12 education sector-specific information

    • Use expertise and judgment to plan for and achieve key results aligned to client goals

    • Develop strategies to help clients reach their goals, often from scratch and with little direction

    • Execute on those strategies through a variety of marketing and communications tactics, requiring not just competence but excellence in those areas for execution

    • Collaborate effectively with internal team members for prioritization and production of client deliverables

Reporting & Recommendations (10-20%)

  • Share periodic progress reports with clients that convey progress toward goals and impact and are simple, compelling, and visually appealing

  • Develop insights across all Texas accounts that can be packaged as recommendations for current and future clients across the state; potentially produce reports of key findings as thought leadership from Matterlab

Special Projects (10%)

  • Assist with additional hiring as needed

  • Assist with other special projects as needed - our business is growing and new opportunities arise constantly, some (not all) of which we choose to move on and need to deploy teammates to

  • 3+ years in communications; district/CMO experience preferred

  • Proven track record of successfully leading projects or teams

  • Ability to effectively manage change and motivate people up, down, and laterally

  • Self-motivation and ability to work with little direction

  • Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to contribute to multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and manage expectations

  • Passion for serving the community, with an interest in children and families

  • Cultural alignment to Matterlab’s ethos that everything is “figureoutable” and no challenge is too great to be solved

  • A strong desire and good personality fit for working in a high-accountability, high-autonomy setting

  • Entrepreneurial - comfortable with ambiguity; driven to succeed even when no one is looking; self-starter; always comes prepared with a well-developed point of view and recommendation when seeking support

  • High-performer seeking a variety of work across multiple accounts in a fast-paced environment

  • Self-directed problem-solver and critical thinker who has a proven track record of setting and meeting a high bar for excellence

  • Meticulous attention to detail

  • Interested in a long-term career in social impact and marketing/communications

  • Preferred technical skills: Adobe Creative Suite, Tableau or other data visualization software, Microsoft Office Suite

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • Competitive compensation commensurate with experience

  • Work in our brand new Austin office on South Congress; flexible remote working

  • Unlimited vacation time (with requirement that you take at least 2 weeks of paid vacation)

About Matterlab

Through strategic marketing and communications, we amplify the impact of organizations transforming life outcomes for children and families.

Matterlab works to advance the missions of high quality, high potential, and highly ambitious social change organizations by employing best practices in strategy, execution, and success measurement in marketing and communications. We believe in cultivating long-term, close collaborations and partnerships with clients. As a seamless extension of our clients’ own teams, we work collaboratively and bring a full range of services to the table, including business strategy, creative development, digital marketing, messaging platforms, communications execution, and thought leadership support.

Matterlab has offices in Austin and Dallas, with clients spanning coast to coast. Our small-but-mighty team operates in an energetic startup culture focused on achieving scalable and sustainable results. Together with our clients, we impact more than 500,000 children nationwide.

Across this country, more than 15 million children—21% of all children—are currently living in poverty, and only 10% of low-income children graduate from high school ready to succeed in college. At Matterlab, we seek to work in partnership with communities to change these types of outcomes.

Core Values

We focus on what is most important—making a sustainable impact on life outcomes for children and families.

We get close to the people closest to the work in order to understand problems and opportunities.

We enjoy getting unstuck and seizing the opportunities in ambiguity.

We know nothing is more powerful than communication and collaboration.

We are hardwired to go the extra mile for each other and our clients.

We find simplicity on the far side of complexity by asking bigger and better questions.
