  • Manage the design and development of automotive electrification systems including mechanical and electromechanical systems for Class 8 truck applications.
  • Manage engineers and technicians cascading weekly tasks and ensuring tasks are on track
  • Lead application engineering team to ensure that customers are provided necessary technical support and field evaluation systems are functioning correctly
  • Sign-off responsibility for engineering hardware, including mechanical and electrical components and sub-systems
  • Provide strategic design direction to the team to ensure that Hyliion is making the correct design decisions balancing key product attributes such as performance and cost
  • Support simulation studies to determine system architecture optimization solutions, working closely with simulation team.
  • Interpret customer requirements to develop system and sub-system product specifications
  • Work with program management team to develop and manage schedules that hit company milestones
  • Manage & mentor engineering team to develop their engineering skill and capabilities; participate in hiring, reviewing performance, discipline, and other related management activities
  • Ensure that product meets all necessary safety and emission compliance requirements
  • Represent Hyliion at key public events and present at key technology conferences
  • Work with business development team to Interpret customer requirements and develop system and sub-system product specifications
  • Support the development of key quality and validation documentation including FMEAs, DVP&Rs to establish key failure modes and develop associated product validation plans
  • Manage, guide FEA and thermal modeling efforts. Review and sign-off reports.
  • Hands-on form/fit/function verification of prototype components, sub-assemblies, and final assembly
  • Regular and reliable attendance
  • Other tasks as assigned
  • Willingness to travel to manufacturing location(s) to support launch programs

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Competency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Expert CAD user including GD&T skills.
  • Expert level in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) of structural systems is a plus
  • Proven expert in automotive industry and associated toolset expertise (FMEAs, DVP&Rs)
  • High volume manufacturing experience
  • Management of team of engineers or other similar management experience
  • Understanding of automotive powertrain systems including both traditional and hybrid
  • Understanding of vibration (including modal) and vibration reduction strategies highly advantageous
  • Experience in battery design
  • Experience in electrical and wiring systems
  • Experience in thermal system modelling, system specification development and component selection
  • Experience in A/C systems preferred
  • Ability to read, understand and generate manufacturing documentation
  • Strong follow-through and self-starting nature
  • Ability to effectively and positively communicate verbally and in writing with customers (internal and external), to address their needs promptly and to follow through on commitments
  • Ability to understand and follow complex verbal and written instructions
  • Strong software tools proficiency in Solid Modeling and Project Data/Lifecycle Management
  • Position will involve travel (10% of time) to visiting engineering providers and hardware suppliers
  • Ability to work well in a high-paced environment, set and meet appropriate deadlines

 

Required Qualifications:

  • 10 years experience in automotive product development roles
  • Masters in Mechanical Engineering


Physical Demands:

  • Ability to stand, sit, use of hands to handle, feel, or reach with hands and arms
  • Ability to lift and/ or move up to 25 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision

Work Environment:

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
