WeWork, a co-working space with locations in San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, Seattle and other tech hubs, will be launching an office in Austin soon. Positioned in the heart of Austin, on 600 Congress Avenue, the new co-working space will house dozens of tech workers and tech events weekly. WeWork’s launch comes as Austin is increasingly seen as a legitimate city for tech entrepreneurs to build their businesses, and as those entrepreneurs are looking for office space to rent.

Small startups and solo freelancers often use co-working spaces instead of renting traditional office space to save on costs and to network with other members. WeWork hasn’t yet disclosed prices for its new Austin co-working space, but rents on community desks at other shared offices in Austin range in price from $300 to $350 per month. Co-working spaces also sometimes have internal closed-off office spaces for lease. Prices for such offices vary with their square footage.

According to WeWork’s website membership will also come with high-speed Internet, conference room access, free food, beer and coffee. WeWork has space for its members to hold events, and provides group discounts on healthcare, technology classes from General Assembly and hosting on Amazon Web Services.

Co-working spaces are growing in number as the tech startup sector expands. In recent years, Austin startups have used a surge in investments to hire additional workers; workers who need office space.

The number of freelance workers is growing too. Previously tethered to work within corporations, professionals are now using Internet connectivity to independently pitch and provide their niche services. They often use websites like Freelance.com and Eden McCallum to connect with customers. Co-working spaces like WeWork help reduce costs and provide professional company.

WeWork will join a number of already existing Austin-based co-working spaces including Capital Factory, Link and Center61.
