In 2016, Fortune published the results of a poll that measured the importance of companies giving back to society. Out of 2,000 responses, participants aged between 18 and 44 were more likely to want to join a company that actively contributed to charitable organizations.

As a result, businesses have initiated volunteer programs and efforts as part of their perks packages, giving a bonus boost to company culture in the process. Here are six Austin tech companies that make giving back a priority through volunteer PTO options and more.

The vacation rental hub HomeAway offers employees two "giving days" a year dedicated to volunteerism. Over 150 HomeAway employees can be found using the days leading up to the winter holidays building a home for an Austin family in need as part of Habitat for Humanity.

BigCommerce’s solutions help small businesses develop professional online stores. Named a best place to work in Austin, the company provides employees across offices in Austin, Sydney and San Francisco with a string of pretty impressive perks. In addition to its open PTO policy and company-sponsored charity events, all BigCommerce team members also receive time off for volunteering.

To help online merchants process orders and shipments, ShipStation’s SaaS platform creates shipping info and manages customer communication to ensure transparency. For team building, the company hosts happy hours, crawfish boils — and volunteer events every month of the year.

Main Street Hub’s marketing platform helps local businesses draw customers and maintain satisfaction by weaving in social media, email marketing and customer reviews. In its downtown Austin office, the company has also built out a hefty package of perks to attract top talent. With a steady flow of social engagements for the team both inside and outside the office, Main Street Hub regularly schedules volunteer opportunities with local animal shelters, soup kitchens and environment-friendly groups.

Building loyalty programs, rewards and marketing services, Buzz Points connects consumers with businesses, banks and credit unions. To reward employees, the fintech company hosts an annual President’s Club trip, unlimited vacation and Buzz Points-sponsored volunteering days.
