The Opportunity:

HomeAway is seeking a director, international tax, based in Austin, to be involved in the US aspects of the Company’s worldwide tax planning and compliance. The director, international tax will team up with other tax team members to collectively gain a deep, end‑to‑end understanding of existing operations and various business initiatives. This position requires working closely with other members of the global tax department to communicate and disseminate current and future business plans, obtain input from tax subject matter experts, and ensure coordination of cross-functional tax solutions. Primary Responsibilities and Essential Duties include:

- Provide proactive tax advice, develop international tax strategy and drive the implementation of solutions for both business and tax led initiatives

- Partner with business leaders, tax, finance, treasury, legal teams, and external advisers on various business and tax planning matters

- Advise on international tax aspects of business expansion including entering into new countries, business initiatives, reorganizations, and cross-border transactions involving multiple tax jurisdictions

- Coordinate with transfer pricing team to advise on the transfer pricing aspects of business expansion, as well as manage implementation and contribute to the review of related calculations

- This individual will be involved in international tax aspects of IRS audits and certain foreign country local income tax audits

- Drive process improvements through the use of technology to streamline tax controllership responsibilities

- Ensure transactions are properly researched and documented

- Review contracts and intercompany agreements, and collaborate with tax and legal department to ensure contracts contain key terms that are consistent with global tax structure and to minimize potential tax risks to the company

- Monitor and analyze existing and proposed tax legislation and assist with defining and implementing appropriate local country tax planning strategies


Ideal Candidate:

- 10 - 15 years of experience including public accounting or law firm experience. Industry experience in the technology sector is preferred.

- LLM or Masters in Taxation 

- Experienced in both US and local country taxation of international transactions and of non-US operations

- Strong organizational, project management, interpersonal, and communication skills

- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment and manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously

- Ability to quickly understand and integrate business objectives with tax strategies, and effectively communicate tax requirements to senior management

- Self-motivated, independent thinker and problem solver – able to think strategically, discover solutions and overcome obstacles within a matrixed organization

- Proficient in Excel, including with pivot tables and modelling, and Word

- Experience with Oracle/enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems is preferred
