The Role

Tesla is seeking an ambitious EHS Specialist to support Body in White manufacturing operations at our Facility in Austin, TX. The successful candidate will partner with a cross-functional team to develop, implement and continuously improve programs within Tesla's comprehensive EHS Management System. The EHS Specialist is responsible for complex technical work across a range of EHS disciplines. They will ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations, and conformance to internal and industry standards.

This role offers the opportunity for advancement in technical roles. The EHS Specialist will be expected to apply human and organizational principles to drive ownership of safety, health and environmental impacts, with a focus on engagement, event learning, and systems-level problem solving.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively work as a key stakeholder on behalf of the Tesla EHS and Manufacturing teams to ensure that Production and Factory changes result in improved controls of risks to health, safety and the environment. Partner with other EHS functions (Industrial Hygiene, Construction Safety, Hazardous Waste, Environmental, Ergonomics, Equipment Safety, etc.) to address needs unique to Plastics and Paint Manufacturing
  • Leverage human and organizational principles to drive ownership of safety, health and environmental impacts, with a focus on engagement, learning from events, and systems-level problem solving. Lead event review with a Learning Teams approach, ensuring that preventative actions address systemic causes not individual behaviors
  • Design safe workspaces and create policies for employees to follow that minimize job-related hazards
  • Provide technical support for EHS programs such as Crane and Hoist, Electrical Safety, Lock-Out Tag-Out (LOTO), Hazard Communication, Emergency Response, Fall Protection, Respiratory Protection, Hearing Conservation, Mobile Equipment, etc
  • Develop and conduct education and training on EHS principles; Assist with field work EHS-impacts oversight, participate in pre-job planning and verification of controls/safeguards prior to commencement of operations
  • Ensure the Giga Texas EHS Management System elements are applied effectively throughout operations. Develop new procedures, inspections, trainings, or reports as needed
  • Support Management of Change (MOC) by analyzing change requests, advising on EHS aspects/impacts, and assigning/tracking actions to closure

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Safety, Engineering, Ergonomics, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, or Safety-related discipline Certifications (OHST, ASP) or equivalent
  • 3+ years of experience as an Environmental, Health or Safety professional, preferably in a manufacturing, construction, or similar industrial setting
  • Experience leading EHS program development, training all levels of personnel, and influencing/managing change through Management of Change (MOC) process
  • Practical, hands-on experience with LOTO, Machine Guarding, Ergonomics, Providing Education/Training, Risk assessment, Incident Analysis
  • In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local EHS regulations, as well as OSHA 1910 and 1926 standards
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, capable of leading incident investigations and implementing effective corrective actions; Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of influencing and engaging with stakeholders at all levels
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint), Confluence, Jira, SharePoint and other web and app-based productivity software
