As part of WP Engine's rapid growth, we're seeking a Systems Engineer to join our TechOps team to help maintain a highly scalable, cloud-based infrastructure.

As a Systems Engineer, you will be tasked with maintaining and monitoring a growing number of servers, writing automation scripts, and implementing best practices for configuration management. You will be relating system metrics to understand performance bottlenecks and you strive for a record number of "9s" of uptime.

• Responsible with the daily operations and support of our servers and services.
• You'll need to be comfortable with the Linux command prompt and well versed in running a website such as installing, configuring, and maintaining services such as DNS, Apache, MySQL, and NGINX.
• Managing release of code from Development into Production on a regular basis.
• Running and growing a large scale, high availability server environment (4,000+ and growing quickly).
• Taking existing processes and automation and improving them.
• Improving and refining our service monitoring.
• Executing large system changes using the latest technologies.
• Writing scripts daily, automation is key.

• 3+ years of experience in a Linux Systems Administration (preferably Ubuntu) or development role, ideally working for a hosting or SaaS company.
• Working knowledge of bash and at least one other scripting language (Perl, Python, Ruby, etc).
• Experience working in a 24/7 operations environment managing a large number of servers.
• Experience using version control systems (we use Git).
• Advanced knowledge of an HTTP connection from SYN to FIN.
• MySQL knowledge and ability to troubleshoot related issues.
• Experience of Apache and NGINX, Varnish a definite plus.
• Experience with automated configuration management systems is a plus (Ansible, Chef, Puppet etc.).
