Virtual Validation/Simulation Manufacturing Engineer
Description
Hybrid: Position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time- but the general expectation is that the employee be on-site an average of three (3) days each week.
The Role
As a Virtual Validation Manufacturing Engineer, you'll lead the charge in transforming how we build, automate, and validate our assembly lines.
The challenge encompasses developing Supplier Virtual Validation capabilities to advance General Assembly automation and equipment buyoff processes. This includes solving complex engineering problems and identifying potential failure situations. You'll thrive in a collaborative environment, working closely with other engineering disciplines and departments from Initial Concept Design to Start of Production. Your role ensures alignment with business strategies, continuous improvement, lessons learned, and standardized solutions for our Digital Twin initiative.
What You'll Do (Responsibilities)
- Serve as the subject matter expert in simulation and emulation processes supporting virtual tooling validation.
- Define requirements for Process Simulation and Software Emulation validation.
- Develop Supplier Simulation capabilities to generate PLC and Robot Offline Programs.
- Ensure deployment of GM Global standards across all projects.
- Train, develop, and integrate Suppliers to enforce GM standards.
- Prepare and document lessons learned from completed projects.
Additional Description
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- 5+ Years Experience in Manufacturing
- 3+ Years Experience in Process Desing and Process Simulation (preferably Siemens Tecnomatix)
- Bachelor''s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics or related Engineering fields.
- Thorough knowledge of PLC hardware and software design and engineering
- Knowledge of Emulation software like Emulate 3D desired.
- Should be able to read Electrical/Mechanical drawings, layout and have design capabilities.
- Knowledge on Robot Programming and troubleshooting, preferably FANUC Robots
- Knowledge of Plant Floor System related to Automation.
- Able to make contributions to the resolution of complex manufacturing problems.
- Ability to travel is required - approximately 10%.
What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
- Acquaintance with Robot and PLC simulation studies and experience of Robot simulation software will be an added advantage.
- Robot interface with other equipment (PLC, Line Controller, Other Machines etc.).
- Ability to understand electrical and electronic requirements for mechanical equipment.
- Knowledge of design for health and safety will be helpful.
- Previous experience in Manufacturing Engineering in General Assembly or related field area.
