About you:

Smarter Sorting is growing! We are looking to hire a Data Operations Analyst to join our Data Operations team. This person is responsible for maintaining and delivering timely and accurate data. They will leverage their data expertise to provide reporting for internal customers, and resolve data related issues and tasks within operational support processes. 

Smarter Sorting needs someone to execute and further refine the numerous processes by which we acquire, develop and manage data. The person will be responsible for ensuring that we meet our SLAs and fulfill other customer data-related expectations.  This person will also be providing additional solutions to internal and external consumers of the data.

What You'll Be Doing:

Tasks:

  • Act as primary Data Classification pipeline expert responsible for execution of data QA tasks, monitoring of the data flows and assisting developers to troubleshoot data movement and processing issues on a daily basis
  • Ingest regular feeds of retailer data and monitor/QA the generation of the customer-specific rules (resulting from both data ingestions as well as other processes)
  • Identify opportunities for accuracy and efficiency improvements within our data pipeline
  • Provide technical support to our Customer Support and our Account Management teams to answer inquiries related to the aforementioned data sets

Processes They Own:

  • Own validation of data in Production at various steps in the pipelines
  • Own data ingestion processes for customer-provided data
  • Own the generation and data quality of customer-specific rules
  • Primary internal resource for determination and appropriate communications for rules-based process decisions 

Subject Matter Expert On:

  • Data input requirements for the Data Classification pipeline
  • Data validation logic and workflows with the Data Classification pipeline
  • Smarter Sorting data classification standards
  • Retailer data pipelines and ingestion logic
  • Customer rules pipeline logic

Experience & Skills:

  • Minimum 2-3 years experience working in data related roles, customer service/support, account management, data analysis, data entry/management, hazardous waste management and/or regulatory compliance (is a plus).  Experience working cross-functionally in an organization
  • Minimum BA or BS - (engineering or science-related field a plus) 
  • Intermediate/Advanced SQL, Excel, Ruby & Python (plus)
  • Experience working with a CRM, Salesforce and JIRA/Wrike (or similar) as well as Relational databases
  • Strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, clear verbal/written communication 

Expectations:

  • 1 month: 
    • Be able to successfully register a product within our Classification Portal
    • Be able to operate data management tools and summarize workflow orchestration
    • Be able to execute at least one Data Classification validation task independently
    • Be able to operate Costco data ingestion processes and customer-rules validation processes end-to-end
    • Be able to quickly identify key data points within an SDS
  • 3 months:  
    • Be able to initiate Supplier outreach independently
    • Be able to execute Data Classification validation tasks (except validation of final classification) independently
    • Be able to identify “stuck” Data Classification pipeline flows
    • Be able to navigate the product registration database
    • Be able to query and report on data in the Data Classification workflows logs
    • Be able to process customer-supplied FTP files within 1 week including updates to the client-data-server - this includes troubleshooting ad-hoc data issues independently
  • 6 months: 
    • Be able to execute validation of final classification in the Data Classification pipeline
    • Be able to fully understand and troubleshoot data issues with our partner retailers such as Costco
    • Have substantially increased the amount of master rules for publication
    • Be able to identify (or minimally hypothesize) root cause of “stuck” Data Classification flows and work with developers to resolve
    • Ability to provide technical guidance to the Support team independently
    • Be a subject matter expert on data flows between internal data systems
    • Provide at least 2 proposals to further automate and/or optimize operational data processes, such as ways to increase accuracy and efficiency in outputs, improved ability to catch and resolve errors, as well as ways to allow partners to self service their product datasets. 
    • Fully trained to be the primary data validation owner
