Who You Are

You will provide technical leadership to the Self engineering organization to evolve and modernize our data platforms to support Self’s rapidly expanding end-to-end data needs, including:

·        Online production data storage and access with elevated levels of availability, scalability, and compliance

·        Back-office use cases including analytics, data science, and business intelligence, reporting and audit

·        Secure and reliable data transport within and across cloud environments and partner systems

You will have demonstrated experience in data platform architecture, development of data technology strategy & roadmaps, and ability to provide effective leadership across multiple software delivery teams in a fast-paced, agile environment. You will be capable of influencing across the enterprise and partnering with multiple business stakeholders, product, operations and technology leaders to drive technology vision and execution. You have a deep understanding of data systems, software and financial industry trends and will work with teammates across Self to align our efforts with enterprise technology strategy, standards, best practices, security and regulatory requirements. 

You will be an Individual Contributor but have strong leadership through collaboration and influencing across the enterprise. This position reports directly to the Self’s Vice President of Engineering.

What You Will Do

·        Provide a clear understanding and vision of the data technology landscape and how best to evolve Self’s data platforms to meet current and emerging business needs as our business scales and diversifies, developing a well-documented end-to-end data platform target state model with associated roadmap.

·        Leverage your deep data modeling expertise to help engineering teams develop optimized data models to support a wide variety of production, back-office, and streaming data use cases,

·        Provide clear expert guidance and leadership to help establish consistent patterns and practices in data modeling & schema design, consumption, transport, and security and compliance.

·        Collaborate with the product team to help ensure foundational data architecture work and other non-functional data platform requirements are properly incorporated and prioritized in delivery team backlogs.

·        Be able to communicate effectively with Self senior leadership and executives in order to drive consensus view on technology initiatives and strategy.

·        Have a passion for emerging technologies and be capable of influencing and inspiring the organization in developing innovative solutions that meet business needs.

·        Ensure the technical integrity and consistency of the data solutions across multiple independent delivery teams, and work with those teams to encourage shared solutions and prevent unnecessary redundancy.

·        Mentor, coach and guide engineering staff.

What you Bring

·        At least 8 years of software architecture experience with a focus on data architecture and data platforms.

·        Solid fundamentals in data modeling including applied knowledge of normalized (3NF) and dimensional data modeling principles and practices and how to optimize data models for various use cases and data platform technologies operating at scale.

·        Broad knowledge of and experience with modern data platform technologies operating at enterprise scale.

·        Strong track record of technology leadership, architecting actionable solutions, and influencing, with leadership qualities that engineering teams and other stakeholders recognize and respect.
