As a key leader of our Marketing team, the new VP of Research & Insights will play a powerful role in how we create, gather and manage research and insights and intelligence that will help us unlock the human condition and enable us to shape the customer and consumer experience with RDC.
This expansive role includes design and user research and marketing insights, requiring quantitative and qualitative skill sets. The role has the remit to reset and re-imagine our approach to research and insights.
We’re looking for an inspiring leader to manage and develop a research team of in-house experts and selected partners to shape the consumer and customer narrative for the entire company. This role reports directly to our Chief Marketing Officer and works closely with cross-functional partners in Product, Design, Marketing, Engineering, Finance and Sales, to ensure access to the insights and research needed to sharpen and shape company, marketing and product strategies for the short and long term. You will build a best in class team that understands how to ask the right questions, give context to data and present insights to decision makers that have impact. You will be the Truth teller for the company serving the market!
What You'll Do
- Design, lead and manage a modern Research & Insights team (including agencies, as needed) which includes qualitative, quantitative, user and market researchers working across Product and Marketing teams. Leverage syndicated research as needed.
- Inspire and motivate a diverse team of researchers to do the best work of their careers by continuously improving how they employ research methods and drive product development, UX design, marketing messaging and positioning using research insights.
- Ensure we are using the best tools and protocols to capture, manage and distill insights and intelligence, including access to new technologies (AI, etc.)
- Own the company’s ongoing brand tracking/health study for both b2b and b2c segments, CSAT study for all audiences, and user segmentation. That includes reporting out on key results to the company and executive leadership team that measures our progress and holds us accountable.
- Evaluate and prioritize work based on business strategy, roadmap, product needs, and user excellence, and urgency; make outsource/insource tradeoffs without impact to results delivery.
- Work with company leadership to determine design and research direction and strategy. Develop your own POV.
- Develop deep partnerships with our Product Management + CPO + Marketing + CMO teams to deliver user insights that inform messaging, product, and go-to-market decisions.
- Develop programs and systems that disseminate research broadly across the company and ensure users’ voices remain at the forefront of key strategic initiatives. Help us create a central repository for the single source of truth.
What You'll Need
- 12+ years of experience in Research, preferably in both a b2c and b2b marketplace
- 7+ years of people leadership experience with direct reports under your guidance and leadership, including hiring and developing both managers and individual contributors
- Experience with both direct people leadership and managing/influencing other leaders
- Proven track record as a highly effective people leader, including:
- A passion for excellence with the ability to inspire others to the highest standards
- Ability to effectively lead the team through change
- Ability to communicate with clarity and consistency and provide an appropriate level of transparency on matters that impact team members’ work and ability to be successful
- Strong emotional intelligence
- Credibility and gravitas to garner the respect and support of the research team, leadership team and other key stakeholders
- Success in attracting and retaining high performing, values aligned team members and creating a team culture where the team can thrive
